Position Overview

The SAP Production Planning Solution Architect serves as the senior solution authority responsible for the design, architecture, and implementation of SAP Production Planning solutions within an SAP S/4HANA environment. This role translates complex manufacturing, production planning, scheduling, and operational requirements into scalable, best-practice solutions that support business objectives and long-term operational success.

The SAP Production Planning Solution Architect leads blueprint and solution design workshops, defines solution scope and architectural standards, guides functional delivery teams, and serves as the primary liaison between business stakeholders, project teams, and SAP functional and technical resources to ensure successful delivery of integrated production planning and manufacturing capabilities across the enterprise.

Key ResponsibilitiesSAP Production Planning Architecture
  • Own the end-to-end SAP Production Planning solution architecture across production planning, demand management, material requirements planning, capacity planning, shop floor control, and manufacturing execution processes.
  • Define planning and manufacturing processes, including MRP, demand planning, production orders, process orders, repetitive manufacturing, and production scheduling.
  • Provide architectural governance throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment with SAP best practices, scalability, maintainability, and business objectives.
Production Master Data and Integration
  • Design and govern production master data, including material masters, bills of material, routings, work centers, production versions, and planning strategies.
  • Establish integration architecture between SAP Production Planning and related SAP solutions, including Materials Management, Sales and Distribution, Quality Management, Extended Warehouse Management, Finance/Controlling, and Manufacturing Execution Systems.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to support integrations, reporting, data migration, enhancements, and custom development activities.
Workshops, Stakeholder Engagement, and Delivery Governance
  • Lead blueprint workshops, solution design sessions, architecture reviews, and requirements-gathering activities with business and technical stakeholders.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes and supporting technologies.
  • Develop recommendations, roadmaps, and solution strategies to improve operational efficiency and production performance.
  • Define security, authorization, and role-based access strategies supporting planners, schedulers, production supervisors, and manufacturing personnel.
  • Mentor consultants and project team members while providing guidance on solution design decisions and implementation best practices.
Business Development, Compliance, and Additional Support
  • Support business development efforts, solution estimates, statements of work, and technical proposal development as a subject matter expert.
  • Travel to client sites for onsite consultation and assistance with go-lives and hyper-care as needed.
  • Adhere to all certified processes as part of the commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and information security.
  • Actively participate in quality assurance activities.
  • Ensure the protection of sensitive information in accordance with security policies.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the direct supervisor.
QualificationsEducation
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field with 8–10 years of experience; or
  • No degree with 10–13 years of relevant experience.
Experience
  • 8+ years of SAP Production Planning implementation experience. [Required]
  • 2+ full lifecycle SAP S/4HANA implementations with responsibility for solution architecture, enterprise design, or lead architecture functions. [Required]
  • Deep expertise in SAP Production Planning configuration and architecture, including MRP, demand management, production orders, routings, work centers, bills of material, capacity planning, and production scheduling.
  • Experience designing manufacturing solutions for complex production environments.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP Production Planning integration with Materials Management, Sales and Distribution, Quality Management, Extended Warehouse Management, Finance/Controlling, and Manufacturing Execution Systems.
Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead workshops and facilitate design sessions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both business and technical stakeholders.
Clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government clearance. [Required]

  • Ability to work in varying environments, including client offices, conference rooms, and controlled industrial or warehouse-adjacent spaces, as applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting U.S. Department of Defense, federal government, defense contractor, aerospace, logistics, manufacturing, or other highly regulated environments.
  • SAP Certified Application Associate – SAP S/4HANA Production Planning or related SAP certification.
  • Experience with advanced planning, finite scheduling, PP/DS, and digital manufacturing solutions.
  • Experience with discrete, engineer-to-order, make-to-stock, or make-to-order manufacturing environments.
  • Prior consulting or systems integration experience with responsibility for solution architecture, client advisory services, statement of work development, and delivery governance.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Business, or related field with 8-10 years of experience; alternatively, no degree with 10-13 years of relevant experience
  • 8+ years of SAP Production Planning implementation experience
  • At least 2 full-lifecycle SAP S/4HANA implementations with solution architecture, enterprise design, or lead architecture responsibility
  • Deep SAP PP configuration and architecture expertise, including MRP, demand management, production orders, routings, work centers, BOMs, capacity planning, and production scheduling
  • Experience designing manufacturing solutions for complex production environments
  • Strong SAP PP integration knowledge with MM, SD, QM, EWM, FI/CO, and MES solutions
  • Ability to lead workshops, facilitate design sessions, and communicate effectively with business and technical stakeholders
  • Ability to travel up to 75% to client sites
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government clearance
