The Role
The SAP COE IT Tool / Automation Specialist drives the design, development and implementation of automation and AI-based solutions that enhance SAP S/4HANA operations and reduce manual workloads. The role ensures efficient, secure, and scalable IT processes through advanced tooling, predictive insights, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams.Goal of function:1) Main tasks:Design, develop, and implement automation solutions supporting SAP S/4HANA maintenance, monitoring, and support activities. Integrate AI/ML tools into SAP operations to enhance predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, and performance optimization. Automate repetitive administrative tasks such as user provisioning, role assignment, and system monitoring. Collaborate closely with SAP functional, technical, and security teams to ensure compliant and efficient automation workflows. Ensure automation solutions adhere to governance, security, and compliance standards. Monitor system health and proactively identify automation opportunities to drive continuous improvement. Document automation processes, tool configurations, and AI models for audit, transparency, and knowledge sharing. Provide training and coaching to teams on best practices for automation and tool adoption.2) Secondary Tasks:Tasks regularly performed in support of primary responsibilities:
- Participate in cross-functional initiatives involving SAP CoE, infrastructure, security, and business process teams.
- Support evaluation and onboarding of new automation and AI technologies.
- Contribute to internal standards and automation governance frameworks.
- Participate in special projects introducing new technologies or major SAP enhancements.
- Provide expert-level troubleshooting for automation-related incidents.
- Conduct periodic reviews of automation performance and ROI.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field
- Master’s degree preferred (optional)
- 10+ years in SAP application maintenance or development
- 4+ years in automation, AI/ML-driven operations, or tooling-focused roles
- Experience working in complex enterprise environments
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving mindset
- Proactive, innovative, and continuous improvement oriented
- Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills
- Ability to translate business needs into technical automation solutions
- Automation frameworks and scripting (Python, PowerShell, ABAP for automation)
- AI/ML tool integration, model deployment, and monitoring
- SAP S/4HANA technical architecture
- IT governance, compliance, and security frameworks
- English (required)
- Additional languages as defined by regional needs
- Proficiency with automation tools and AI platforms
- Strong understanding of enterprise IT landscapes
- Documentation and presentation skills (technical and non‑technical audiences)
- SAP S/4HANA modules and integrations
- Enterprise automation and monitoring tools
- Ability to work in global teams across time zones
- Willingness to occasionally travel for workshops or project needs
- Ability to support critical activities during off-hours when required
