Job Description:
The Principal Consultant within Vertex’s Global Professional Services organization leads the technical delivery of SAP implementations, specializing in the deployment and integration of Vertex indirect tax solutions on the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). This role serves as a technical authority for SAP integration architecture, ABAP development, and e‑invoicing solutions, supporting SAP MM, SD, and FI modules. The consultant partners closely with cross‑functional teams and customers to deliver high‑quality implementations, mentor junior staff, and contribute to Vertex’s revenue growth and customer success objectives.
Required Qualifications
7+ years of SAP techno‑functional consulting experience, with hands‑on expertise in ABAP Objects (OO), BAdIs, BAPIs, IDocs/EDI, Data Dictionary, and workflow, supporting end‑to‑end SAP implementations and integrations.
Strong experience leading SAP technical implementations across full project lifecycles, including design, build, test, and deployment
Proven expertise supporting SAP MM, SD, and FI modules, with emphasis on tax-related functionality
Demonstrated experience integrating Vertex tax solutions with SAP, including Accelerator and Plus Tools
E-invoicing implementation experience within SAP environments (required)
At least 1 year of hands-on experience deploying and integrating solutions on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP)
Solid background in interface design and development, including SAP integration architecture
Ability to evaluate business requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions
Experience executing work aligned to client Statements of Work (SOWs) and delivery milestones
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience accepted in lieu of a formal degreeSAP certifications or credentials (strongly preferred)
Experience with SAP Order‑to‑Cash and Procure‑to‑Pay business processes
Working knowledge of OData services and SAP Document and Reporting Compliance (DRC)
Prior experience serving as a technical subject matter expert for SAP integration architecture
Demonstrated ability to mentor junior consultants and lead technical project teams
Experience collaborating with global, cross‑functional delivery and product teams
Strong documentation skills, including technical specifications and configuration documentation
