 Retail Buyer - Apparel

The Retail Buyer will be responsible for achieving sales goals while maintaining inventory productivity (WOS) and ST% through the correct selection of merchandise for stores to maximize company’s return on inventory investment. This person will stay in close communication with their store teams to understand store-specific needs and tailor buys to maximize sales and inventory productivity, while maintaining our scarcity model. This person will be responsible for achieving gross and net sales targets, managing OTB, inventory, gross margin and net profits through product selection.  The Retail Buyer role is a highly collaborative role and partners closely with a variety of cross-functional partners. The ideal candidate has a combination of left brain and right brain, being both analytical and data-driven while simultaneously having a product/ visual eye and being aware of current trends. 

 What You'll Do: 

  • Own product selection for our diverse fleet of retail stores to ensure a visually well balanced assortment that meets financial targets and supports central merchandising strategies
  • Determine the correct sales to stock mix, breadth and depth of assortment per store to rightsize investments 
  • Run weekly, monthly and ad hoc reports to analyze product performance highlighting key business opportunities as well as proactively react to minimize OTB risks
  • Ability to analyze a complex business to accurately articulate best and worst sellers
  • Manage and review OTB with Head of Retail Buying to maximize business opportunities and trends
  • Partner with Merchandising to develop and execute the best seasonal merchandise product strategies for Retail
  • Management of buy plans and receipt management to ensure accuracy of on order and investment
  • Partner with planning on the determination of receipt plans and inventory management to drive assortment execution
  • Partner with Allocations to drive in-store allocation and buys to reflect category initiatives, ensuring appropriate inventory levels that will maximize sales
  • Work cross functionally with retail field, marketing, web, operations to ensure communication of merchandising and retail strategies
  • Partner with Merchandising and Planning to build and manage successful replenishment and core model plan
  • Generate correct and timely purchase orders that both meet projected demand and stay within overall OTB goals.
  • Partner closely with production to ensure on-time delivery and prioritization weekly
  • Track style & SKU-level sales, inventory and outstanding orders on a daily basis and make adjustments to plans based on business needs
  • Communicate product knowledge to boost conversion and enthusiasm of product for the retail fleet 
  • Communicate regularly with stores, as well as regional directors to identify opportunities and to share information on new products
  • Manage buying and allocations based on store inventory levels based on volume, capacity, seasonality, regional market and customer profile
  • Identify and improve workflow opportunities
  • Product planning and execution of new store opening assortments
  • Manage the Buying Coordinator and oversee their development and growth


What You'll Need:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of Merchant / Buyer experience at a retailer/e-commerce company  
  • Experience with buying for 20-50+ stores
  • Minimum of 1-2 years experience managing/mentoring a direct report
  • Experience applying tailored store buys to elevate individual store assortments
  • Strong analytical aptitude and in depth understanding of the Open-to-Buy and financial metrics to drive it
  • Strong commercial product eye, informed by data, to drive product selection and ensure collection 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel and Powerpoint (Google platform preferred)
  • Strong Analytical and Math Skills, specifically in merchandise planning
  • Ability to work cross functionally in a fast-paced environment is a must
  • Ability to adapt and learn internal business systems
  • Strong Excel Knowledge, experience modeling and analyzing inventory levels      
  • Ability to deal successfully with complexities of an expanding organization
