Head of Sales Engineering
Grammarly offers a remote-first hybrid working model. Team members can work primarily remotely. Starting in 2022, teams will meet in person every quarter in one of Grammarly’s hubs, currently in San Francisco, Vancouver, New York, and Kyiv. To ensure that teams are able to overlap in their working hours and to meet face-to-face when needed, all team members need to live within three time zones of their direct team.
Grammarly team members who will be collaborating at our San Francisco hub must be based in the United States.
The opportunity
Grammarly empowers people to thrive and connect, whenever and wherever they communicate. Every day, 30 million people and 30,000 teams around the world use our AI-powered writing assistant.
To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a Head of Sales Engineering to report to the General Manager of Grammarly Business. This role will be the first to spearhead all of Sales Engineering and will bring professional leadership to the function in order to create a best-practice and globally scaled Sales Engineering capability for Grammarly Business. This role will be part of a highly collaborative leadership team working to scale a values-driven and learning-oriented business.
Your impact
As Head of Sales Engineering, you will be critical in enabling Sales to grow quickly and will help drive the overall productivity of the entire Sales ecosystem. You will remove friction from processes pre and post-sales and build a tight link between Sales, Marketing, and Product.
- Within your first 30 days, you will establish command over the product, our Proof of Value sales approach and performance, and Command of the Message framework. You will understand core GTM metrics and drivers and develop hypotheses for improvement areas.
- By month three, you will establish the operating cadence and reporting for day-to-day execution, and implement initiatives targeting improvement in key drivers of Sales productivity (e.g., enabling larger deal sizes).
- By month six, you will have made step changes in one to two core areas of Sales Engineering performance (e.g., custom demos/storytelling, proactive relationship building in larger deals to enhance win rates) and will have a roadmap for scaling the team effectively.
- Within your first year, you will establish a scaled team across North America and Ukraine, continue a trajectory of productivity improvement, and prove the professional development pathways of the team.
We’re looking for someone who
- Embodies our EAGER values—is ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.
- Has experience working with large companies that require multiple stakeholders to win a deal, deep information security reviews, and procurement.
- Demonstrates proactive discovery/diligence and account planning and preparation that is consistently “on paper,” and navigates objection handling with creative and confident solutions.
- Knows how to sell on business value rather than a feature or specification list.
- Has the ability to synthesize quantitative and qualitative data, make data-driven decisions, and use (often incomplete) data to identify gaps and opportunities.
- Can build and deepen relationships with people, understanding their feelings, their goals, their fears, and their dreams.
- Has experience managing a large global team.

Please note that Grammarly’s COVID-19 vaccination policy requires that all team members in North America be vaccinated against COVID-19 to meet in person for Grammarly business or to work from a North America hub location. It is expected that this will be a requirement for this role. Qualified candidates in North America who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons or because of a sincerely held religious belief may request a reasonable accommodation to this policy. For Ukraine, this policy requires team members to be vaccinated or produce a daily negative COVID-19 test administered at the Kyiv hub to work from the hub or attend in-person meetings.
