Job summary
A Sales Engineer at Equinix supports the technical sales process across an assigned portfolio of accounts. Working under the guidance of Solutions Engineering Management and senior peers, the role focuses on developing customer-facing skills, building foundational product knowledge, and contributing to solution design and pre-sales deliverables. The Sales Engineer collaborates with Account Executives to understand customer needs and begins to independently apply Equinix solutions to address them.
Responsibilities
Technical consulting & sales support
Collaborates with Sales Account Executives to identify customer business needs, challenges, and technical requirements, and maps these to Equinix solutions
Applies defined technical processes and procedures to develop solutions, escalating to senior team members on complex issues
Participates in customer meetings and presentations, taking on increasing technical responsibility with appropriate guidance
Demonstrates a foundational understanding of Equinix data centre, and interconnection services
Solution design & deliverables
Assists in and coordinates RFI/RFP/RFQ preparation as requested by sales representatives
Contributes to the development of customer deliverables, including design packages and feasibility inputs, with oversight from Solutions Engineering Management and senior peers
Applies standard practices to analyse situations or data of basic to moderate complexity
Exercises growing judgement within defined procedures to determine appropriate solutions
Customer relationship
Communicates with customers (internal and external) in a professional and effective manner, both verbally and in writing, with coaching and guidance
Coordinates pre-sale support for company products and services, ensuring a consistent customer experience
Provides technical support in sales presentations, customer meetings, and trade shows
Business & market expertise
Builds foundational knowledge of Equinix data centre, interconnection, and digital infrastructure solutions
Develops familiarity with the competitive landscape and broader industry context
Engages in ongoing technical education across colocation, networking, cloud integration, and AI
Collaboration & communication
Supports Sales teams in efforts to earn new business and maintain existing customer relationships
Collaborates with internal teams (Customer Success, Operations, Order Management, Implementation Management, etc.) to ensure smooth transitions from pre-sales to post-sales
Builds and maintains relationships with key internal stakeholders
Develops clear and professional communication skills with regular coaching and feedback
Organisational involvement
Open to guidance and mentorship from leadership and more senior Sales Engineers
Actively participates in team initiatives and structured development programmes
Provides feedback on systems, tools, and processes to the leadership
Qualifications
Languages
Native German required and Strong English proficiency required, as it is Equinix's primary business language
Experience
Proven years of related experience, or equivalent. Prior exposure to data centre, cloud, networking, or telecoms is an advantage
Education
Bachelor's degree in a technical or business-related field, or equivalent practical experience
Technical skills
Foundational understanding of data centre infrastructure, networking concepts, and/or cloud services. Ability to learn and apply new technical knowledge quickly
Presentation skills
Ability to clearly articulate thoughts and present in front of various audiences
Collaboration
Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to work cross-functionally. Ability to work in a global organisation, interacting with many cultures in different regions. Receptive to feedback and coaching
Adaptability
Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt in a rapidly changing environment, with attention to follow-through. Demonstrates curiosity and willingness to continuously grow and learn new topics
