At Butler Manufacturing, our Estimating Department is at the forefront of innovation in the building systems industry. We combine industry-leading products with creative strategies to drive sustainable growth and deliver lasting value—for our customers, communities, and company. Our team plays a vital role in evaluating projects through the lens of profitability, risk management, and responsible business practices, all while building strong relationships and championing diverse perspectives.
We're looking for a Sales Engineer who can bring technical expertise and strong communication skills to help guide our clients from vision to proposal. In this high-impact role, you’ll develop structural designs, work closely with internal teams and external partners, and prepare detailed proposals for a variety of building projects—including pre-engineered and hybrid structures. Your work will directly influence how we serve our builders and deliver excellence in every project.
What You’ll Do:
Prepare accurate structural estimates for complex pre-engineered, conventional, and hybrid buildings.
Interpret building plans and specs to develop clear, complete proposals.
Engage with customers to understand project requirements and ensure timely, aligned deliverables.
Recommend framing systems that balance design efficiency, performance, and cost.
Collaborate with the sales team to finalize pricing and proposal accuracy.
Provide pre-order technical support and guidance to Butler builders and partners.
What You’ll Bring:
Professional Engineer (PE) license (strongly preferred)
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field
10+ years of experience in the construction industry, including:
5+ years in structural steel building design
5+ years in estimating, sales, or proposal development
Working knowledge of building and steel design codes (IBC, ASCE, AISC, etc.)
Experience using design software (RISA, RAM, STAAD)
Metal building system design experience
Bonus If You Have:
Familiarity with REVIT or similar design tools
Advanced certifications in structural or civil engineering
