Lead new technology and product introduction in the next phase of a Tier 1 service provider routing and switching network
- Complete standardization and production network implementation of UT 2.0 Phase 1 with successful WaveRouter FOA and deployment.
- IPv6 management plane implementation in the existing UT production network
- Lead Segment Routing over IPv6 data plane (SRv6) integration into the UT production network
- Adapt commercial internet, L2VPN, and ELINE service design to new SRv6 infrastructure and create designs for new service offerings per customer requirements and specifications
- Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) certification and standardization for new Ciena edge and core routing platforms for SRv6, such as Ciena 8192 (CE) and 8300 (compact PE)
- Equipment design and quoting to customer’s Access and Core Infrastructure Network planning teams for FOAs, deployment projects, and customer lab systems.
Lead IT development deliverables for customer OSS systems including workflow design and NETCONF RPCs
- Create, validate, and present NETCONF RPCs for customer’s IT development for network automation of service activation, service, assurance testing, and telemetry
- Configure and maintain customer lab test beds for their agile IT development teams
- Provide responsive test bed troubleshooting assistance to IT development teams maximize system availability to help customers meet development schedule milestones and targets
- Assist IT development teams in resolving issues arising from network automation workflow testing.
Own and lead telemetry solution requirements, design, and standardization testing for UT and ULH networks
- Assume ownership as the Ciena point of contact to customer teams focused on network telemetry for Ciena platforms
- Maintain an up-to-date view of customer telemetry requirements, identify gaps, and drive Ciena PLM teams to deliver appropriately prioritized feature enhancements, bug fixes, and alternative solutions to ensure compliance across Ciena platforms relevant to the customer network
Own and lead Ciena’s adherence to customer network platform security requirements
- Assume ownership as the Ciena point of contact to the customer’s Security Teams for network telemetry for Ciena platforms
- Maintain an up-to-date view of customer security requirements, identify gaps, and drive Ciena PLM teams to deliver appropriately prioritized feature enhancements, bug fixes, and alternative solutions to ensure compliance across platforms relevant to the customer network
- Conduct periodic reviews with both internal Ciena cross-functional teams and customer security groups to strengthen Ciena’s security posture and continuously improve Ciena’s earned security score from the customer’s security team
Education Level
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, computer science, telecommunications, a related field or equivalent work experience
Required Knowledge and skills
- 3-5 years of experience engineering, provisioning, and troubleshooting routing and switching solutions in the context of large carrier and enterprise networks is essential
- In-depth knowledge and hands on experience in routing and switching protocols – Layer 2 Ethernet, IP, MPLS, ISIS, OSPF, RSVP-TE, BGP, etc.
- Hands-on experience engineering, testing or deploying networks on Carrier Ethernet or IP based platforms (Ciena, Nokia, Cisco, Juniper, Huawei, Adva, or equivalents) with proven debugging and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent understanding of MEF based Carrier Ethernet Services.
- Solid working knowledge of UNIX/LINUX and Windows system administration.
- Ability to formulate and execute thorough and comprehensive test plans or methods of procedure
- Ability to work with customers and account teams to understand and define requirements and priorities
- Ability to lead, influence, and direct cross-functional teams and resources to successfully achieve customer objectives and requirements
- Successful practical problem solving, excellent written and interpersonal communication
- Ability to manage projects, prioritize tasks, and work independently
- Multitasking and adaptability to changing project, priorities and market demands
- Ability to travel frequently for domestic and international business on short notice
Bonus Knowledge and skills
- Experience with IPv6, segment routing, SR-MPLS, or SRv6 would be an asset
- Experience with telemetry protocols such as gRPC, gNMI, TLS, etc.
- Knowledge of network security, AAA security, and/or cybersecurity
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge in network management, northbound interfaces (NBI), network automation, service orchestration, and machine-to-machine (M2M) communication protocols (NETCONF, YANG models, RESTful APIs)
- Programming experience in Python or other language for CLI scripting or other network or test automation purposes (e.g., Ansible, RESTful, TCL, Expect, bash, Perl, JavaScipt, etc.)
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge in optical networking technologies and protocols such as Optical Transport Network (OTN), DWDM, ROADM, SONET/SDH, PON/FTTH, etc.
- Experience leading successful New Product Introduction (NPI), field trial, or FOA projects
The annual total target compensation pay range for this position is $144,000 - $230,000 USD This includes both base and incentive compensation. (For Sales roles that are TTC in the Salary Range Tool)
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
