Sales Engineer - SMB/Mid-Market, UK
About Mimecast
The work people build is worth protecting, and it's harder to protect than it used to be. AI agents now move at machine speed with human-level access, and a small slip-up can become a very public one. We disrupt cybercriminal activity before that happens. We think fast, go big, and always demand more of ourselves. We work hard, deliver, and repeat. We grow with real determination and put success well within reach. We push each other to be better and expect to be pushed back, in a community built on respect, where everyone is counted. Work Protected.
Overview
The Sales Engineering team is looking for a Sales Engineer to own the technical path to close across our SMB and Mid-Market customers, bringing Mimecast's full platform story to life for customers and partners.
Reporting to the UK Sr. Sales Engineering Manager, you'll partner with Account Executives and Account Managers to run discovery, deliver demos, and position solutions that make sense for each customer's environment and budget. This is a customer-facing role from day one, with ownership of the technical win and support from an experienced Sales Engineering leader invested in your development.
What You'll Do
- Own the technical conversation throughout the sales cycle, from initial discovery through proof of value and technical close
- Deliver clear, compelling presentations and demonstrations to IT leaders, security teams, and business stakeholders
- Partner closely with Account Executives and Account Managers to build deal strategy, qualify opportunities, and align solutions to customer outcomes
- Lead technical discovery to understand each customer's environment, pain points, budget, and definition of success
- Manage proof-of-value engagements against clearly defined success criteria
- Maintain timely and accurate notes across opportunities and proof-of-value engagements in Salesforce
- Support RFP, RFI, and tender responses with accuracy and commercial awareness
- Deliver effective technical handovers to delivery and customer success teams, and advocate internally for customer feedback
- Support and enable channel partners through joint selling, technical enablement sessions, and partner-facing content
- Contribute to field marketing activities, including webinars, events, and thought leadership
What You'll Bring
- Experience as a Sales Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or in a similar customer-facing technical role, preferably with a cybersecurity vendor
- Demonstrated experience supporting SMB and/or Mid-Market customer segments
- Hands-on experience in one or more cybersecurity domains—such as email security, insider risk and data loss prevention, security awareness training, endpoint protection, or identity and access management—with the curiosity to learn quickly and speak credibly about how security technologies work in practice
- Strong communication and executive presence, with the confidence to engage senior IT, security, and business stakeholders
- Clear written communication and the ability to translate complex technical ideas into plain language that connects solutions to customer outcomes
- Strong commercial instincts and an understanding of what moves a deal forward, including qualifying opportunities, positioning value, supporting a compelling business case, and applying structured sales methodologies such as MEDDPICC, Sandler, Challenger, or similar
- Experience working alongside channel partners through joint demos, technical enablement, or capability building, with an understanding of how partners can extend reach and multiply impact
- Familiarity with SaaS platforms and cloud-delivered security solutions
- A curious, hands-on approach, a desire to learn, and the competitive drive to secure the technical win
- Familiarity with AI tools, such as Claude, to support day-to-day work
- Willingness to travel as required for customer, prospect, partner, and marketing activities
- Relevant industry certifications, such as vendor-specific credentials, CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or equivalent, are beneficial
- Experience with threat intelligence or security analytics solutions such as LogRhythm, Splunk, Rapid7, or Microsoft Sentinel is beneficial
