Coder is an AI software development company leading the future of autonomous coding.
The Role
Owns sales compensation design, quota and territory modeling, commission administration, forecasting, accruals, audit support, and payout accuracy across the go-to-market organization. Partners with Sales, Finance, Accounting, Payroll, Engineering, and IT to build and improve an internal commission platform. The role also manages plan communications, disputes, reporting, documentation, and business requirements for compensation tooling.
Summary Generated by Built In

Coder's Sales Compensation Architect owns the design, administration, and continuous improvement of incentive compensation across our go-to-market organization. You'll design plans that drive the right behaviors and align with business objectives, and make sure reps are paid accurately and on time.

This is a high-autonomy individual contributor role reporting to the VP of Finance & Monetization. You'll partner daily with Sales leadership, FP&A, Accounting, and Deal Desk, and you'll work directly with Engineering & IT to build and iterate on Coder's homegrown commission platform. You won't be maintaining someone else's system; you'll be shaping one that's being built to fit exactly how we sell.

What you'll do here

  • Design and maintain incentive compensation plans for all GTM roles (AEs, SEs, SDRs, CSMs, Sales Leaders), partnering with Sales leadership and Finance to align plan mechanics with business strategy.

  • Own quota and territory modeling end-to-end, working with Sales Operations, Sales leadership, and Finance to set targets grounded in data, not gut feel.

  • Administer the full commission lifecycle: create and deliver plans, calculate commissions, validate payouts, resolve disputes, and ensure accurate and timely payments in coordination with Payroll and Accounting.

  • Partner with FP&A to build and maintain commission forecasting models that feed into the company's operating plan and board reporting.

  • Work with Accounting on commission accruals, ASC 606 considerations, ASC 340 considerations, and audit support for compensation-related items.

  • Collaborate with Engineering & IT to build, test, and iterate on Coder's internal commission platform — translating plan design into system logic, validating calculations, and driving the tool's roadmap from a business-requirements perspective.

  • Manage ongoing plan administration: onboarding new hires to their plans, processing plan changes, communicating plan documents, and maintaining a clean single source of truth for all comp plan data.

  • Handle exception requests and commission disputes with sound judgment and high EQ, balancing rep trust with plan integrity.

  • Build reporting and dashboards that give Sales leadership and Finance visibility into attainment, payout trends, and plan effectiveness.

  • Document processes, policies, and plan terms clearly so that comp administration scales as Coder grows.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in sales compensation design, administration, or operations within a SaaS or software company.

  • Hands-on experience designing incentive compensation plans and translating business objectives into plan mechanics.

  • Strong financial modeling skills — you can build multi-scenario comp models, stress-test plan economics, and present tradeoffs clearly.

  • Deep understanding of the commission lifecycle: plan design, quota setting, calculation, payment, accruals, and audit.

  • Experience owning or closely partnering on commission tooling — whether a vendor platform or a homegrown system. Comfort writing business requirements, validating system logic, and QA-ing outputs.

  • Working knowledge of ASC 606 & ASC 340 as it relates to commission expense and capitalization.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex compensation mechanics into clear language for reps, managers, and executives.

  • High EQ and sound judgment — you'll sit between Sales (who want more) and Finance (who want predictability), and you need to hold the line without burning relationships.

  • Strong Excel / Google Sheets skills; SQL proficiency is a plus.

  • Ability to operate independently, manage competing priorities, and move fast in a company that's scaling rapidly.

Bonus tacos if you have

  • (Tacos? If you need an ice-breaker, ask how we say thanks by giving tacos!)

  • Experience designing compensation plans for consumption-based or hybrid (subscription + usage) selling models.

  • Experience building or significantly customizing an internal commission platform in partnership with engineering teams.

  • Background in B2B infrastructure, developer tools, or cloud/platform sales.

  • Experience with multi-geo compensation considerations as a company expands internationally.

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted workflows for compensation modeling, forecasting, or administration.

AI use during the interview process

As an AI company, Coder embraces the use of AI tools, and we want to be transparent about our expectations as you navigate our interview process.

Permitted: Using AI tooling for take-home assessments. Please flag where and to what extent it was used in your take-home. Your submission will not be penalized for using AI as long as it is done honestly.

Our use of AI in hiring

We use AI tools to help manage our recruitment process efficiently and fairly. Specifically:

  • Ashby helps us review inbound applications by surfacing candidates who best match the role requirements we've defined. This tool does not make hiring decisions; it helps our team prioritize which applications to review first.

  • Granola takes notes during our interview calls so our team can focus on the conversation with you.

All hiring decisions are made by humans. Our team reviews applications, conducts interviews, and makes final selections. AI tools assist us but never replace human judgment, and these practices are conducted in compliance with applicable data protection, AI governance, and labor laws. Your data is not used to train AI models.

In accordance with New York City Local Law 144, an independent bias audit has been conducted on "Automated Employment Decision Tools"; results are available for Ashby.

If you're applying for a role at Coder and have questions about how we use AI in our process, or if you'd like to request information about the data we collect, please contact [email protected].
