Position Purpose summary:   

Thrift Store Clerk is one member of a team of individuals who sees the day-to-day operations of our thrift store.  The clerk is responsible for the general cleaning, sorting of donations, and customer service of running the till.

Accountabilities:               

  • Responsible for sorting and pricing donations

  • Assist with quality control

  • Customer Service:answering phone, customer inquiries, concerns etc. as needed

  • Operate cash register/Interac Machine as required

  • Assist with the counting of money and preparation of bank deposit, as needed

  • Active participant in “Tidy Management” (general tidying-up of the store inside and outside and work area)

  • Take garbage out daily

  • Bring donations from outside

  • Sweep/mop store floor

  • Help with picking up donations for food bank

  • Other duties as assigned

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Internal

  • Will be in direct contact with the Thrift Store Supervisor

External

  • Customers, clients, partner agencies and general public

FINANCIAL AND OFFICE MANAGEMENT:  

  • Handling of cash through the register and preparing deposits

WORKING CONDITIONS:  

  • Thrift Store front and back rooms

  • Some outside work (different weather conditions)

  • Bad smells due to dirty donations

  • Soiled donations (bodily, pet, or smoke)

  • Tuesday – Saturday 9:30 – 6:00, ½ lunch break (3 various days)

Education and Experience Qualifications:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:  

       •    Grade 12 or Equivalent

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements  

  • Training will be provided

  • Able to communicate efficiently & effectively with customers and co-workers

  • Physically fit, energetic & good co-ordination (position requires frequent bending, twisting, crouching, reaching, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, lifting, and standing for long periods of time)

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Willingness to be flexible in their duties

  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team setting

  • Must have a positive attitude and pleasant personality

  • Able to lift 30lbs

  • Follow Health and Safety Procedures

  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.

  • Understanding of and support for the Mission and Ministry of The Salvation Army

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $15.35 to $18.86 with a maximum of $22.64.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
