Apogee Enterprises, Inc (NASDAQ: APOG www.apog.com) is looking for a Sales and Use Tax Specialist to join our Architectural Framing Systems business.
The Sales and Use Tax Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with sales and use tax regulations. This role involves managing the tax exemption process, preparing and filing sales and use tax returns for multiple jurisdictions, and handling tax audits. You will be working with colleagues in multiple physical locations, using virtual collaboration technologies such as Webex, SharePoint, and Asana.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of indirect tax laws. You can work remotely and in person to obtain and understand the information you need, and you have proven you know how to prioritize your workload and independently get through it. You have good verbal and written communication skills, and you can recognize and communicate problems, collaborate with others for solutions, and improve processes.
POSITION DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Tax Compliance: Prepare and file returns for multiple jurisdictions, ensuring timely and accurate reporting. Reconcile tax liabilities with general ledger accounts.

Exemption Certificates: Work with customer service team to manage and maintain customer exemption certificates, ensuring compliance and resolving disputes.

Audit Support: Assist with state tax audits, providing documentation and resolving discrepancies with tax authorities.

Billing/Credit Memos: Serve as a backup for invoicing and credit adjustments.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

Strong knowledge of multi-state sales and use tax regulations and compliance processes.

3 years of experience in preparing and filing sales tax returns across multiple jurisdictions and managing sales tax exemptions, preferably in manufacturing, construction, or a similar industry.

Familiarity with sales tax software (e.g., Vertex, Avalara), preferred.

Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across various locations and functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
The ability to travel for collaboration, or participation in process-improvement and Company-wide events may be required, but will be infrequent.
