The Specialist, Health and Safety supports the development, coordination, and implementation of safety programs to ensure a safe work environment and compliance with all health and safety regulations. This role assists in reviewing and analyzing jobsites, working closely with supervisors to identify and eliminate hazards, and helps enforce adherence to corporate safety standards and applicable laws.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Safety Program Support & Compliance:

  • Assist in the review, evaluation, and analysis of work environments and safety practices to help prevent injuries and incidents
  • Support the implementation of safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA, state, local, and company standards
  • Visit jobsites to observe field operations, monitor compliance, and encourage hazard recognition
  • Notify management of any observed safety violations and help ensure corrective actions are implemented
  • Provide field crews with safety signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to control access to hazardous areas
  • Respond to safety-related questions from employees and supervisors as a knowledgeable resource
  • Participate in accident investigations, contribute to root cause analysis, and support development of prevention strategies
  • Help prepare documentation for accident reports, insurance claims, and safety reviews
  • Assist in ensuring all jobsite safety, first aid, and fire prevention equipment is present and in working order
  • Support documentation and submission of all required safety records, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance

Training & Field Engagement:

  • Conduct weekly safety orientations for new hires and support their integration into the company's safety culture
  • Assist with the development and scheduling of safety talks and monthly meeting topics relevant to ongoing field conditions
  • Deliver on-the-job training in specific areas (e.g., aerial lift, forklift) after completion of appropriate training courses
  • Support First Aid/CPR training sessions and assist the trainer as needed
  • Help coordinate contractor safety training and ensure field leadership begins meetings with a focus on safety
  • Participate in accident review meetings at the branch or company level as needed

Pre-Construction & Planning Support:

  • Participate in pre-construction safety planning by conducting site visits and helping develop site-specific safety plans addressing PPE, hazards, and work practices
  • Work with project teams to ensure all customer and company safety requirements are identified and addressed before work begins
  • Stay informed on emerging industry safety topics and recommend adjustments to programs and practices as needed

Safety/Hazard Recognition & Elimination:

  • Pre-plan and identify the methods to eliminate hazards daily by work task.
  • Execute skill in observing habits and hazards of others and bringing it to their attention.
  • Uphold safety as the most important goal of our company. Support goal of achieving zero accidents.
  • Promote and encourage open communication between field and office regarding all safety concerns, suggestions, improvements, and PPE needed.
  • Obtain safety training as expected by all company personnel.

 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety (or related field) preferred
  • 5+ years experience in safety and occupation health
  • Prior internship or work experience involving safety or leadership required
  • 3-5 years experience in an office environment with responsibility for a variety of duties
  • Prior experience in the electrical or construction field preferred

Experience, Skill and Abilities

  • Positive safety attitude and personal integrity -- both are non-negotiable
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams)
  • Competence to keep personnel information strictly confidential
  • Ability to see details and recognize errors, working with precise standards of accuracy
  • Ability to exercise good business judgment
  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in an environment where numerous tasks and projects are occurring simultaneously and to meet deadlines
  • Accurate record-keeping skills and detail orientation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to write clear reports

Physical Requirements

  • Office environment requiring sitting and standing. Travel to various construction sites is essential, exposing employee to outdoor elements, noise, and the need to stand and walk.

Skills Required
