Job Summary: The Safety Specialist supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of company safety programs, with a strong focus on new operations, acquisitions, and specialty manufacturing or industrial environments. This role partners closely with the Director of Health & Safety and relevant stakeholders, to assess risk, establish compliant and practical safety frameworks, and integrate safety expectations into evolving business structures.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with safety program development for new company operations and M&A activity, including gap assessments, policy alignment, and implementation of site-specific safety plans.
- Develop and adapt safety elements unique to specialty operations, ensuring programs are compliant and operationally effective
- Document findings, compile information, create reports as needed, analyze data, and track progress. Maintain files and records as required.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive health and safety project documentation.
- Communicate effectively in person and in writing to keep the project team, customers, contractors, and other relevant stakeholders well informed of pertinent information in a timely manner. Assumes responsibility for filling in gaps in customer communication.
- Foster an environment where new ideas are discussed and developed collaboratively. They will help others overcome resistance to change. The candidate will be dedicated to creating solutions to customers' problems.
- Work independently but be quick to ask questions and draw upon the best internal, customer, and industry resources to meet customer requirements accurately and efficiently. Build and maintain healthy, long term, professional relationships with coworkers, customers, suppliers, and industry partners. Maintain excellent composure, especially under pressure.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental, health, safety
- Experience: Five years’ experience in similar safety role, required
- Technical Skills:
- Creating and maintaining safety management systems
- Hazard identification and control
- Extensive knowledge of occupational safety regulations
- Knowledge of, and experience with, safety management systems
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Adaptability: Flexibility and willingness to work on various projects and tasks, embracing new challenges with enthusiasm.
- Initiative: Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative to drive projects forward.
