The Role

The Safety Specialist has the primary responsibility of promoting a safety culture through coaching, leading and influencing the operations team on Environment, Health & Safety principles and practices. The position will be responsible for leading the efforts around injury prevention, implementation of the EH&S operating plan, roadmap implementation, and compliance with local, federal, and Husqvarna Group standards. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Health & Safety

  • Maintain the ISO 45001:L2018 Occupational Health & Safety Management System.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to EHS activities, including reports, procedures, and records.
  • Conduct risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards related to health and safety, and work with relevant teams to implement corrective and preventive measures.
  • Plan and execute activities to reduce recordable safety incidents and lost workday injuries.
  • Provide guidance and EHS best practices, deliver training programs to employees to promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Recommend changes to safety policies and work practices to increase awareness and reduce exposure risk.
  • Develop new and revised programs (PPE, LOTO, Hazard Communication, Emergency Response Plan, Fall Protection, Respiratory Protection, etc. to address hazards and prevent accidents.
  • Ensure appropriate and required safety training is complete and properly documented for all associates.
  • Review, evaluate and audit company’s 5S program as it relates to Safety.
  • Be a key influencer to improve overall safety culture.

Environmental

  • Maintain the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System.
  • Identify and implement improvements related to environmental sustainability.
  • Plan and execute activities to increase the recycling rate and reduce energy consumption.
  • Conduct risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards, and work with relevant teams to implement corrective and preventive measures.

Quality Assurance

  • Assist Quality Manager in maintaining the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System to ensure product conformity with established standards/requirements.
  • Participate in Quality audits and help operations evaluate and mitigate quality risks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address and resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Position-specific Competencies

  • Effectively communicate processes while working cross-functionally with internal partners and external partners.
  • Ability to work with safety based data collection and analysis.
  • Strong organizational skills, and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Takes initiative, driven, self-reliant and enjoys multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.

CRITICAL FUNCTIONAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Extensive understanding of OSHA regulations.
  • Proven ability to train employees on safety and ergonomics protocol.
  • Work cell design/redesign to improve/eliminate recordable injuries.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Health and Environment, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in EH&S management within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • OSHA Certification
  • CPR/First Aid/AED

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Factory environment with noise, dust, etc.
  • Some heavy lifting
  • Heavy PC use
  • Daily, weekly, monthly and annual deadlines
  • Occasional travel less than 5%
