Job Summary
GTS Transportation is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Safety Specialist to join our transportation and logistics team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for promoting a safe work environment, ensuring compliance with transportation safety regulations, and supporting daily operational safety initiatives. This role requires strong communication skills, organizational abilities, and a proactive approach to accident prevention and regulatory compliance.
Employment Type & Schedule: Full-time, 100% in-office. Shift : 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and enforce compliance with DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and company safety regulations
- Conduct Audits & Inspections: Perform safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments for drivers, vehicles, and facilities
- Investigate Incidents: Investigate accidents, incidents, and safety violations; prepare detailed reports and corrective action plans
- Maintain Records: Maintain driver qualification files, safety records, and compliance documentation
- Coordinate Training: Coordinate driver safety training, orientation, and ongoing educational programs
- Monitor HOS/ELD: Monitor driver logs, hours of service (HOS), and ELD compliance
- Communicate Policy: Communicate with drivers and management regarding safety procedures and policy updates
- Develop Safety Programs: Assist in developing and implementing company safety programs and procedures
- Track Metrics: Track and report safety metrics, violations, and trends using computerized systems and Excel
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate with dispatch, operations, and management teams to improve overall workplace safety
Qualifications & Skills
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and transportation safety regulations
- Organization: Strong organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced logistics environment
- Technical: Proficient in Microsoft Excel and computerized safety/compliance systems
- Communication: Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Attention to Detail: Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate records with strong analytical skills
- Experience: Experience with driver safety management, compliance monitoring, or transportation operations preferred
