The Safety Specialist administers the general health and safety policies, procedures, and safety training of the organization. This position conducts all safety-related functions in compliance with Company, Federal and State Regulations, and is responsible for maintaining our culture of Zero Preventable Accidents.

We are open to hiring remote if we find the right talent in any of the following states: AZ, ID, ND, NM, NV, TX.

What you will do to contribute to the company's success

  • Ensures all worksites across the Company’s footprint are compliant with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and other applicable state, local, or and other industry-specific regulations or mandates.
  • Delivers appropriate, OSHA compliant, safety and health, accident prevention, and accident investigation training for managers and supervisors.
  • Conducts periodic inspection of worksites to assure safe and healthful working conditions.
  • Recommends appropriate mediation to management for abatement of any identified hazards.
  • Investigates accidents to identify root causes to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future. Maintains records of accidents on the site and prepares reports as required by regulatory agencies, insurance representatives and upper management.
  • Collaborates with cross functional teams to assess ongoing and future safety and development needs, as well as effectiveness of established programs.
  • Evaluates safety and risk management performance metrics and identifies improvement opportunities via modifications to current programs.
  • Takes on other duties needed to help drive our Purpose, fulfill our Brand Principles, and abide by our Organization’s Values.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with primary area of study in Occupational Safety and Health required.
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university preferred.
  • Experience equivalent to an Associate's degree may be considered in lieu of education requirement.
  • 3 years or more Related experience and/or training required.
  • Experience with technical safety methodologies established by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) at the Associate Safety Professional designation level required.
  • Experience with safety program management and implementation within cable telecommunications, commercial driving, or the construction industry required.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple projects and priorities with demanding deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of management.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and presentation skills.
  • Must be able to work irregular schedules on occasion, including weekends, evenings, and overnights depending upon business needs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience developing, delivering, demonstrating, and evaluating Safety Skills.
  • Familiar with adult learning methodologies and capable of teaching classes in-person and online.
  • Board of Certified Safety Professional’s (BCSP) Associate Safety Professional (ASP) preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred.
