We are searching for a hands-on, results-oriented Safety Specialist to join the Vantage Environmental, Health and Safety team.

Vantage is comprised of eight business units including GAL Manufacturing; GAL Canada; Hollister-Whitney; Elevator Controls; Courion; Bore-Max; Thames Valley Controls; and Vertical Dimensions. Through its brands, Vantage supplies almost all electro-mechanical devices used in contemporary elevators. The Vantage group employs over 900 staff in multiple locations across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Reporting to the Director of EHS, the Safety Specialist will support the advancement of companywide EHS programs, management systems, workers’ compensation practices, and continuous improvement initiatives. This highly collaborative role will work across manufacturing, warehouse and distribution operations, and business-unit leadership to strengthen EHS systems, evaluate program effectiveness, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide practical safety support to operations.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical and analytical capabilities with the communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills needed to influence positive change throughout the organization.

Requirements

We are searching for a candidate with:

  • Bachelor’s or associate degree preferred, preferably in Environmental Health and Safety or a related field.
  • OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour certification preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of health and safety experience within manufacturing operations; warehouse or distribution experience is also preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards.
  • Experience working with EHS management platforms; technical aptitude and experience configuring, improving, or supporting EHS system functionality preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, with advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently manage multiple priorities across locations and functions.
  • Ability to engage, influence, and motivate employees, supervisors, and managers at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent presentation and training skills, with the ability to influence and motivate team members.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Duties and Responsibilities

A typical day may include:

  • Support the Director of EHS in implementing and continuously improving companywide environmental, health, and safety programs and initiatives.
  • Support the development and improvement of the company’s EHS management platform, including audits and inspections, compliance tracking, safety data sheet management, corrective actions, and learning management system functionality.
  • Partner with EHS, Human Resources, and business-unit teams to improve EHS training processes, employee and job-function training mapping, and overall training effectiveness.
  • Assist in developing the company’s EHS audit roadmap and lead facility and program audits to evaluate alignment, program effectiveness, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with business-unit leadership to address audit findings, develop practical corrective actions, and strengthen implementation of company EHS programs.
  • Support workers’ compensation and injury management, including claim reviews, injury investigations, documentation, return-to-work coordination, and identification of opportunities to improve claim management.
  • Provide hands-on EHS support to business units through workplace evaluations, hazard assessments, incident investigations, program implementation, training, and other safety initiatives.
  • Analyze EHS performance information, including incidents, audits, corrective actions, training, and workers’ compensation data, to identify trends and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Develop and occasionally deliver effective EHS training, presentations, communications, and tools for employees, supervisors, and managers.
  • Build collaborative relationships across the organization and serve as a trusted EHS resource, helping operations identify practical solutions that improve safety and reduce risk.
  • Perform other duties and support EHS initiatives as assigned.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Work is performed in general office, manufacturing plant, warehouse, and distribution environments.
  • The role may involve exposure to operating machinery and heavy equipment and requires compliance with applicable safety procedures and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Limited physical effort is generally required, with occasional movement of materials and equipment.
  • Travel to Vantage locations may be required to conduct audits, investigations, training, evaluations, and other EHS support activities.
