Carlisle Construction Materials is now hiring a Safety Specialist to join our team in Carlisle, PA.  This position assists with the plant safety programs and enforces the plantwide compliance requirements as established by Carlisle Construction Materials’ Environmental, Health, and Safety department. The incumbent in this position works closely with plant management and the safety coordinator in Plant 4 in Carlisle, PA.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Conducting Tier 3 Meetings (Boardwalks) 
  • Addressing priority A items 
  • Discussing SSISP framework, Satellite accumulation audits, good catches, and Safety Gemba’s completed 
  • Informing employees on potential risk areas 
  • Creating safety Gemba’s based on T3P reports 
  • Organizing safety Gemba’s to eliminate potential future hazards 
  • Conducting Awareness Training 
  • Holding 4 trainings per quarter for all exempt employees 
  • Organizing and tracking all quarterly training for non-exempt and maintenance employees 
  • Conducting Authorization Training 
  • LOTO, mobile equipment, powered industrial trucks, fall protection, incident investigation, respiratory protection, crane & hoist, confined space, CCM safety handbook, First Aid/CPR & bloodborne pathogens, HRN audits, and ergonomic audits 
  • New Hire Safety Orientation 
  • Compile a list of all authorized training documents for plant 4 
  • Organizing all paperwork for authorization trainings and submitting the forms to talent development 
  • Create and maintain a training tracker to maintain 100% compliance 
  • Reviewing good catches/T3P’s daily 
  • Maintaining the T3P tracker for all departments in plant 4 
  • Addressing safety concerns that are commented on work orders 
  • Incident Investigations 
  • Assisting with Process improvements 
  • Identifying contributing factors, providing support pictures, and taking witness statements 
  • Utilizing the 5-whys to solve problems analytically and supporting solutions with A3’s 
  • Submitting/updating incident reports into the safety portal and following up with countermeasures 

 

  • Safety Alerts 
  • Communicate incidents to applicable parties 
  • Completing safety Gemba’s if similar to process/areas in risk assessments 
  • Maintaining safety alert records and tracking signatures 
  • Conducting Monthly Meetings 
  • Safety team meetings (4 per month) 
  • Support safety team needs by submitting safety improvement work orders 
  • Assign tasks to team members 
  • Lead and coach members on HRN’s and ergonomic assessments 
  • Conduct weekly safety audits and submit results to the improvement tracker 
  • Bi-weekly meetings with Value Stream Managers 
  • SSISP (Support the Safety Coordinator) 
  • Organizing monthly meetings to achieve 100% compliance of framework 
  • Submitting work orders for actionable items 
  • Addressing priority A items 
  • HRN/Ergonomic Audits 
  • Addressing HRN areas in red immediately 
  • Conducting weekly audits to ensure updates are implemented in the spreadsheet 
  • Escalating the priority of Red/Orange HRN areas during Tier 3 meetings 
  • Conducting ergonomic authorizations and assessments, hand focused T3P assessments, fork truck focused T3P’s, and ergonomic focused T3P’s 
  • Weekly Satellite Accumulation Audits 
  • Conducting weekly audits 
  • Following up with supervisors and Value Stream Managers to ensure compliance 
  • Creating and maintaining Hazardous/Non-Hazardous communication boards 

 

Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Education & Experience: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management or related field (Engineering/Business) 
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 – 5 years of related safety experience in a manufacturing environment 

 

 

Equipment & Data Used: 

 

  • Equipment run on the job: computers 
  • Materials used on the job: business periodicals, trade publications, safety reports, safety notifications, internal communications, and corporate communications 
  • Data utilized on the job: various data from plantwide safety reports and kaizen event results 

 

 

Work Environment/Time Worked: 

 

  • Work Environment: 
  • Majority of work is completed in an office setting 
  • Boardwalks and observations are done in the manufacturing plant 
  • Office is air conditioned in the summer 
  • Plant ambient temperatures in the summer match the outside temperature 
  • Potential for temperatures in the plant to exceed 100ᵒF 
  • Plant is heated in the winter 
  • Time Worked: 
  • Monday – Friday with occasional off shift/weekend support 
  • One shift operation (7:00AM – 4:00PM) 

  

Physical Requirements: 

  • Sitting – during office work, while generating reports, or while working on a computer 
  • Walking – during boardwalks and to observe different areas of the plant for safety risks 
  • Sight – must be able to see and recognize warnings and hazards 
  • Talking & Hearing – must be able to communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, management, and other employees in the plant 
  • Standing – must be able to stand while delivering boardwalk presentations 

 

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Used: 

  • Hearing Protection 
  • Safety Shoes 
  • Safety Glasses 
  • PPE required for use of specific chemicals will be provided when needed 

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety Management or related field (Engineering/Business)
  • 3-5 years related safety experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of government safety regulations
  • Knowledge of plant-specific safety policies
  • Knowledge of Plant PSM/RMP requirements
  • Knowledge of rubber manufacturing processes
  • Group facilitation and leadership skills
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
