Job Description

This position is responsible for ensuring safety and regulatory compliance within multiple regions, including overseeing safety programs, training, accident investigations, and regulatory adherence across various areas.  This position will support operations spanning from the West Coast, Southern US, and the Midwest.  Regular travel is expected up to 75%.  Employee must be able to pass the railroad E Rail certification including a comprehensive background check as well as pre-employment drug screening. 

Key Responsibilities 

Safety Management 

  • Ensure compliance with corporate safety policies across regional and branch offices. 

  • Train and support Managers, Supervisors, and Foremen in safety protocols. 

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and work to reduce accidents and illnesses. 

  • Develop and conduct safety training programs, including: 

  • Proper handling, storage, and disposal of pesticides. 

  • First Aid and illness prevention (e.g., Lyme disease, poison ivy). 

  • CPR 

  • MOT training, flagger training and related highway infrastructure required training 

  • Chair regional safety committee meetings and keep employees informed of safety updates. 

  • Revise and update safety manuals in coordination with the Corporate Safety/Risk Manager. 

  • Complete safety questionnaires for new and current clients. 

  • Lead accident investigations and report findings to the Corporate Safety Director. 

  • Collaborate with insurance companies on accident follow-ups. 

  • Assist in managing liability claims and coordinate driver training programs. 

  • Support the risk department with workers' compensation claims, including paperwork, communication with employees, doctors, and insurance companies, and minimizing claims. 

Compliance Responsibilities 

Corporate Compliance 

  • Coordinate the company’s Drug/Alcohol policy and ensure all employees complete necessary documentation and testing. 

  • Proactively train employees on workplace issues such as drugs, alcohol, smoking, workplace violence, and other policies. 

  • Assist in investigating employee complaints related to unfair treatment or workplace issues, including discrimination and harassment. 

Regulatory Compliance 

Federal/State DOT Compliance: 

  • Support drivers in obtaining and maintaining CDL certifications and ensure compliance with DOT regulations. 

  • Keep driver documentation up to date (logbooks, medical cards, etc.). 

  • Maintain regional DOT files and ensure all required posters are displayed in work areas. 

State Pesticide Compliance: 

  • Ensure the company is registered in all required states and coordinate pesticide usage reports. 

  • Stay up to date with state-specific pesticide laws and maintain training materials for employees to obtain and renew state pesticide licenses. 

  • Keep records of licensed technicians and assist with license renewals, including testing and certification. 

Right-To-Know Compliance: 

  • Provide training to employees on worker right-to-know laws. 

  • Maintain current MSDS files and community response plans. 

OSHA Compliance: 

  • Ensure regional facilities meet all OSHA standards related to chemical storage, mixing, disposal, and equipment safety. 

  • Regularly inspect regional equipment and ensure adherence to safety procedures. 

  • Maintain compliance with OSHA programs (e.g., lock-out and respiratory protection). 

EPA Worker Protection Standards Compliance: 

  • Ensure the region complies with EPA standards for worker protection. 

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, or a related field (preferred). 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management or a related field, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role. 

  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other safety-related regulations. 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train and engage employees at all levels. 

  • Ability to conduct risk assessments, inspections, and audits, and analyze safety data. 

  • Proven ability to manage and resolve safety issues and accidents in a timely and effective manner. 

  • Ability to perform site inspections and safety audits in various work environments, including outdoor and industrial settings. 

  • Regular travel is expected for this position. 

  • Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours, including during emergencies or in response to accidents. 

  • A CDL license is a plus

Skills Required

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, or a related field
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, pesticide regulations, and other safety-related regulations
  • Ability to obtain/pass railroad E Rail certification and comprehensive background check
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening (and participate in drug/alcohol testing programs)
  • Ability to travel regularly up to 75% and work outside regular business hours when needed
  • Experience conducting accident investigations, risk assessments, inspections, and safety audits
  • Experience developing and delivering safety training (CPR, first aid, pesticide handling, MOT/flagger training)
  • Experience managing workers' compensation claims and coordinating with insurance companies and medical providers
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for training and employee engagement
  • CDL license
  • Ability to perform site inspections in outdoor and industrial work environments
  • Experience coordinating state pesticide licensing, reporting, and compliance
