This role is not a remote opportunity, it is on-site at our Manufacturing Plant in Indianapolis, Indiana.
SCOPE: The Safety Manager develops, implements, administers, audits and coordinates companywide occupational safety/security programs. The Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring inspections and evaluations of equipment and processes in working areas to ensure compliance against regulatory and industry standards. Their main goal is to protect the employees and consumers.
Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities
- Lead the company toward world class safety through relentless pursuit for injury prevention, risk reduction and compliance.
- Bring safety experience, expertise and innovation regarding to compliance and risk reduction via elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, PPE, employee engagement, behavior-based safety programs, risk assessments, and understanding of implementing, managing, and sustaining safety programs.
- Drive health and safety culture through active encouragement of employee safety participation; facilitate and sponsor employee led safety teams.
- Fosters new ideas to improve the safety program.
- Establishes and improves upon health and safety goals and objectives.
- Influence and drive collaboration to achieve desired safety performance objectives outlined by corporate, business unit, and local/site initiatives.
- Generates, maintains and distributes timely safety metrics utilizing a variety of documentation and data platforms.
- Review and analyze data, KPIs, to determine the opportunity for safety performance improvement.
- Effectively develop, implement, manage and sustain regulatory health and safety programs.
- Reviews and assesses new or existing projects and processes for potential effects to the workers’ health and safety through coordinated efforts with project managers and engineers.
- Identifies the need for industrial hygiene equipment, schedules and maintains industrial hygiene studies and resulting actions.
- Ensure regulatory compliance of all required safety training, collaborate with the Training team and production.
- Promotes a safe working environment by coordinating site inspections, incident investigations, RCA and CAPA generation and completion.
- Develop, implement/maintain internal inspection and audit processes to drive and ensure safety and compliance effectiveness. Strive for continuous audit readiness.
- Effectively maintains all safety records.
- Responsible for safety software functionality and utilization.
- Generates and completes timely submission of regulatory reports including but not limited to: OSHA 300 logs, Tier II, Form R, etc.
- Ensures all waste is handled in a manner to meet regulatory compliance.
- Ensures compliant management of hazardous and universal waste and waste manifests, through final destruction.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (B. S.) preferably in Safety or Industrial Engineering or related scientific field; plus 5-10 years of experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing/production setting, preferably in food, with emphasis in line driven safety and process safety management.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, administration, management and utilization of safety software.
- Excellent ability to multi-task, prioritize and work with independence regarding regulatory compliance.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; comfortable with interactions inclusive of all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrates a very high sense of urgency; speed to market is critical.
- Demonstrates critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
