Job Description
Peterson Cat has a need for a Safety Manager who will be based at our Hillsboro, OR location.
SUMMARY
The Safety Manager leads the development and implementation of safety programs for an assigned region to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. This role partners with branch and department leaders to align safety goals with business objectives and promote a proactive safety culture centered around accountability and continuous improvement. Additional responsibilities include conducting site visits and safety assessments, facilitating safety training, maintaining safety documentation and emergency preparedness plans, leading and supporting incident investigations, and overseeing regulatory inspection activities.

Responsible to oversee all aspects of occupational safety in designated region, implementing safety programs, ensuring compliance with government and industry standards, and communicating safety related matters to Director of Corporate Services and other senior managers.
Establish and maintain a safety presence by attending occasional safety meetings within region, mandated safety training and performing walk around inspections of all complex areas.
Monitor safety regulations and advise management of regulation changes; work with others to integrate into business and operational policies and procedures.
Develop, enhance, and provide dynamic training programs to ensure both optimal operational safety readiness as well as compliance with all applicable safety regulations.
Provide guidance and technical advice to managers, supervisors, and field personnel tailored to individual safety needs.
Assist in developing and maintaining statistical accident/incident rate and severity information for the business units as well as at the corporate level.
Conduct comprehensive accident/injury investigations.
Work with employees, managers, and Human Resources to help coordinate the process of collecting information, developing light duty work, etc.
Conduct new employee safety orientation.
Maintain facility emergency preparedness plan and conduct emergency drills.
Work with Managers and Safety Specialists to develop annual goals.
Work with and train Safety Specialists and Safety Coordinators to support management objectives.
Provide corporate programs that ensure compliance with company safety policies and OSHA.
Manage Peterson’s safety management system (EHS Insight).
Ensures corrective actions and incidents are submitted and completed on time
Partners with HR to ensure accuracy of employee data
Develop and implement the following safety processes.
Employee safety training
Safety inspections
Weekly tailgate topics
Incident reporting
Pre-job briefings
Life critical standards
Calculate and publish safety metrics/reports
Quarterly Safety Performance Reports (SPRs)
Publish safety reports as needed for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and executive leadership
Monthly safety recap (monthly)
Publish safety bulletins on an as needed basis
Effective transitional return to work program
Work with business units to have an effective incident reporting, investigation, and resolution process.
Keep safety policies and standards up to date.
Identify new safety policies and standards that need to be created.
Maintain third party vendor safety reporting (ISNetworld, Aveta & Browse)
Oversee regulatory inspection activities and manage appeals response to any resulting citations.
Develop emergency preparedness and response programs for each facility.
Maintain compliance related to Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and HAZCOM (Hazard Communication)). This is a joint responsibility with the Environmental Compliance Manager.
Maintain corporate safety records (i.e., initial as well as annual safety training, facility hazard and safety suggestion documents).
Travel to branch locations up to 50% of the time, including overnight travel.
Operate company or personal vehicle as needed for business travel.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree from a fully accredited college in Business or other closely related field; and a minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience, preferably in a heavy industrial environment; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certified Safety Professional credentials preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
