Safety Investigations Engineer supporting either the Automotive Safety Office's Pre-Investigation Review (PIR) team or Vehicle Hardware Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG).

What you'll do...

This position supports Ford’s product safety investigations process, within either the newly established Pre-Investigation Review (PIR) team or existing Vehicle Hardware Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG), in evaluation of issues which may present a potential safety defect or regulatory non-compliance.

You'll have...
In the Pre-Investigation Review (PIR) team, you’ll help determine if an issue should be further reviewed by Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group, Environmental Problem Review Committee, or Customer Satisfaction Forum, based on effect on vehicle occupants and other road users, potential compliance considerations, occurrence considerations, and other factors.
• In the Vehicle Hardware Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG), you’ll help support investigatory efforts seeking to evaluate concerns which present a potential safety defect or regulatory non-compliance related to hardware systems in Ford’s products.
• Lead collaborative interactions with many Ford organizations including Product Development (PD), Ford Customer Service Division, Supplier Technical Assistance, Manufacturing, Office of General Counsel (OGC) in the evaluation and resolution of potential issues.
• Develop broad range of contacts across the company and leverage in support of timely root cause ownership identification and support.
• Work with other organizations to develop and request special tests, field surveys, etc., to help assess the necessary facts in the evaluation of potential safety and compliance issues.
• Prepare presentations and reports, including engineering analysis and the coordination of special vehicle/component demonstrations, to be used in both technical and non-technical discussions with all levels of leadership.
• Create & maintain investigation documentation in accordance with document retention guidelines and submit regulatory documentation as necessary.
• Maintain trackers, dashboards, and status reports across multiple concurrent safety-defect and compliance investigations.

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering preferred.
• 1+ year of experience in engineering, quality, or project management.
• Strong strategic thinking and analytical problem-solving skills.
• High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse, cross-functional organizations and global teams.
• Effective oral communication and strong technical writing skills.
• Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management.
• Strong working knowledge of vehicle systems.
• Experience in Design & Release and/or Manufacturing is preferred.
Even better, you may have...
• A strong understanding of automotive OEM product development lifecycles and manufacturing processes (Ford-specific experience is a plus, but not required).
• Strong working knowledge of Ford product development and manufacturing processes, and database systems (GSAR, etc).
• Experience providing technical assistance to legal teams, participating in legal investigations, or drafting regulatory documentation.

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $86,600-$144,900., This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $99,100-$166,200.     
Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
Internal applicants: moving into this role may result in an adjustment to your current compensation based on the posted pay range for this role, taking into consideration your qualifications and other relevant factors.
