Position Summary: The Safety/Environmental Supervisor is responsible for monitoring the site's safety programs and ensuring compliance with company policies and the Safety Management System. This individual will maintain records and reports of workplace activities, including accident preventive measures and violations. The role involves developing and administering proactive prevention programs for accidents and illnesses, preparing and reviewing technical reports and forms, and conducting safety inspections and training. The Safety/Environmental Supervisor will ensure compliance with federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and provide accurate safety statistical information and analysis to the plant leadership team. Additionally, this role involves overseeing and managing environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives, ensuring adherence to environmental regulations, implementing best practices for environmental management, and leading efforts to minimize the environmental impact of our operations. The Safety/Environmental Supervisor will work closely with various departments, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders to promote environmental stewardship and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and facilitate training in areas such as ergonomics, emergency response, lockout/tagout, hazard communications, etc.
  • Identify potential hazards and propose safe work practices to leadership teams.
  • Provide expertise on hazard identification and risk mitigation processes.
  • Offer advice and counsel concerning all city, state, and federal compliance regulations.
  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace.
  • Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices.
  • Coordinate the implementation of controls from results of hazard analysis.
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures, and recommend changes for hazardous conditions.
  • Conduct specialized safety training programs to communicate hazard control information.
  • Assist in new employee safety and environmental orientation.
  • Perform other related duties as directed that correspond to the overall function of this position.
  • Creating and implementing environmental programs
  • Writing compliance plans
  • Tracking key performance indicators for compliance
  • Developing and submitting permit applications
  • Implementation of waste minimization programs
  • Ensuring on-time reporting of all required compliance-based reports and communicating any non-compliant issues
  • Leading and influencing location management to ensure compliance
  • Maintaining relationships with local state and federal regulators and spill response oversight.

  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act
  • Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act Oil Pollution Act

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in safety or related discipline required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of safety experience required.
  • Familiarity with state or local environmental laws ensure reporting and response to local agencies are met and business interests are protected.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and data-driven with an affinity for data management.
  • Ability to monitor leading and lagging indicators to detect performance trends.
  • Effective verbal and writing skills to present ideas and concepts to diverse audiences, from front-line employees to plant leadership.
