Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Safety Lead to provide dedicated safety oversight for electrical construction operations across our data center and industrial projects. This role is responsible for ensuring OSHA compliance, implementing electrical safety programs, conducting inspections, and leading safety initiatives specific to high-voltage electrical work environments. The ideal candidate will have both electrical construction knowledge and comprehensive safety expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Safety Program Leadership:
- Develop, implement, and maintain electrical safety programs for construction projects
- Ensure compliance with OSHA electrical safety standards (29 CFR 1926 Subpart K)
- Establish and enforce NFPA 70E arc flash and electrical safety requirements
- Lead lockout/tagout (LOTO) program for electrical systems
- Implement and monitor energized electrical work permit (EEWP) procedures
- Oversee qualified electrical worker (QEW) program and training
Daily Safety Oversight:
- Conduct daily electrical safety inspections on active construction sites
- Monitor electrical work practices for compliance with safety standards
- Observe and evaluate high-voltage work, medium-voltage installations, and low-voltage systems
- Identify electrical hazards and implement immediate corrective actions
- Verify proper use of electrical PPE (arc-rated clothing, insulated gloves, face shields)
- Ensure proper grounding, bonding, and temporary power safety
- Monitor substation work, switchgear installations, and energized equipment safety
OSHA & Regulatory Compliance:
- Maintain OSHA compliance for all electrical construction activities
- Ensure adherence to NEC (National Electrical Code) safety requirements
- Coordinate OSHA inspections and respond to citations
- Maintain electrical safety documentation and records
- Ensure compliance with client-specific electrical safety requirements
- Prepare for and participate in safety audits
Electrical Hazard Assessment:
- Conduct arc flash hazard assessments and risk analysis
- Review and approve energized electrical work permits
- Perform job hazard analysis (JHA) for electrical tasks
- Evaluate approach distances and electrical safety boundaries
- Assess shock hazards and implement protective measures
- Monitor electrical testing and commissioning safety
Training & Competency:
- Deliver electrical safety training to field personnel
- Conduct NFPA 70E and arc flash safety training
- Train workers on LOTO procedures for electrical systems
- Certify qualified electrical workers (QEW)
- Provide toolbox talks on electrical hazards and safe work practices
- Ensure all electricians maintain required safety certifications
Incident Response & Investigation:
- Respond immediately to electrical incidents, near-misses, and emergencies
- Lead electrical incident investigations and root cause analysis
- Coordinate with project management on corrective actions
- Track electrical safety metrics and trends
- Implement preventive measures based on investigation findings
- Report serious incidents to OSHA as required
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with electrical foremen, superintendents, and project managers
- Participate in pre-job safety planning meetings
- Conduct weekly safety meetings with electrical crews
- Coordinate with general contractors and subcontractors on electrical safety
- Serve as electrical safety subject matter expert (SME)
- Report safety performance to senior leadership
Equipment & Systems Safety:
- Inspect electrical tools, equipment, and testing devices
- Verify voltage-rated tools and insulated equipment
- Monitor temporary power installations and distribution
- Oversee grounding and bonding systems
- Ensure proper storage and maintenance of electrical safety equipment
- Verify calibration of electrical testing equipment
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred
- 5+ years of electrical construction safety experience (required)
- Experience with data center, industrial, or high-voltage electrical projects (required)
- Previous experience as electrician, electrical foreman, or electrical superintendent preferred
Certifications (REQUIRED):
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification (required)
- NFPA 70E Qualified Person certification (required)
- First Aid/CPR certification (required)
Certifications (PREFERRED):
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
- OSHA 510 or 500 certification

- Experience with data center electrical systems and infrastructure
- Experience with 480V, MV distribution (4160V, 13.8kV), and substation work
- Knowledge of UPS systems, generators, and backup power
- Lean Construction or Six Sigma knowledge
