Position: Safety Coordinator
Pay Rate: $27.39 - $36.11 (Based on experience)
As part of the manufacturing team, you’ll use your skills, the Sonoco safety management system and other tools to improve the safety performance and maintain environmental requirements as prescribed by local, state and federal requirements. The facility safety coordinator will be responsible for implementation of all Safety, Health and Environmental programs for the facility. The ideal candidate will be part of the facility leadership team tasked with developing and implementing strategies to continually improve Safety, Health and Environmental performance.
What you’ll be doing:
- Evaluates and enforces site Environmental Health and Safety Programs and ensures compliance with applicable state and federal laws, as well as company policies and procedures.
- Continually trains, educates and refreshes all facility employees on safe work practices, policies, procedures, standards and reporting related to safety, environmental and health.
- Fully supports safety initiatives by direct interface with leadership to address safety concerns.
- Provides safety support, presence and guidance of the overall safety philosophy.
- Assists in the development of the Corporate and Division Safety Management System.
- Researches and prepares safety materials, delivers presentations, and retains records.
- Responsible for updates to track action items generated from safety meetings and audits.
- Oversees safety training including attendance for all on-site personnel to track participation in all OSHA regulatory and facility specific required training.
- Leads post- incident investigations and provides recommendations for sustainable corrective actions.
- Reviews and creates Job Safety Analysis (JSA), One Point Lessons (OPL), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions (WI).
- Coordinates safety meeting schedules, agendas, materials and activities.
- Conducts regularly scheduled safety audits.
- Responsible for posting required safety materials including Safety Team meeting minutes and safety inspection and audit results on bulletin boards and ensuring the boards are up to date.
- Assist supervision, as required with all safety related issues
- Will assist in the investigation, corrective action and reporting of all safety related incidents.
- Assist Maintenance to ensure that all installations, guards etc. are done in compliance with applicable regulations.
- Responsible for reviewing all Close Calls and Incident Reports from Incident Report Database and discusses incidents with teammates.
- Assist in obtaining information and assistance from outside organizations.
- Review safety specifications for new equipment, processes or materials with Maintenance and Engineering.

- Demonstrated functional/technical knowledge on OSHA regulations safety processes and procedures such as injury/illness recordkeeping, confined space entry, LOTO, and other safety work practices.

- Associates Degree
- 2-5 years of related experience.
- OSHA 30-Hour Training, preferred but not required
- Must be proficient in: Microsoft office, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Position requires an ability to communicate through verbal and written methods to all employees and to community and government agency representatives. Job demands knowledge of computer systems, motivation techniques, and interpersonal relation skills. Position requires leading group discussions and speaking in public (often to large groups).
