Safety Compliance Specialist - Fayetteville, NY
$65,000/Year - 10% Bonus Potential
Our Safety Compliance Specialist will be responsible for fostering an environment that emphasizes a strong safety culture in our Material Recovery Division. They will do this through auditing the facilities for safety opportunities, training local employees on safety policies and programs, organizing and leading safety committee meetings, and ensuring we are compliant with all TOMRA, state, and governmental EHS requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Monitoring and enforcing PPE requirements that are required within the specific facility (steel-toed shoes, hearing protection, eye protection, Hi-Viz clothing, and proper cut resistant gloves).
• Building and maintaining a positive and consistent Safety Culture specifically on the processing floor at each depot location.
• Communicating safety hazards and opportunities to managers and supervisors, following up to ensure the issues are documented, corrected or are in the process of being corrected.
• Audits of safety items (E.G. fire exits clear of obstruction/debris, slip/trip/fall hazards, etc...)
• Audits to ensure compliance with required safety policies and programs, digital record keeping of such trainings (E.G. PIT, LOTO, confined space, etc.…)
• Manage monthly/yearly OSHA regulated training compliance to make sure all is completed by warehouse employees.
• Validate proper usage of PIT (Powered Industrial Truck) program, including classroom training, hands-on evaluation, daily checklist management, reckless/unsafe driving, reevaluations, and close calls.
• Assist in organizing injury and accident root cause analysis reviews for warehouse employees.
• Observe daily operations, report unsafe conditions/ acts and ensure steps are taken to correct.
• Partner with EHS, P&O, and operational leadership to develop safety policies and programs.
• With the assistance of the P&O team, issue progressive discipline to correct safety issues/concerns.
• Own TOMRA’s safety committee program, developing and coaching a safety committee at each location.
• Leading monthly local safety committee and quarterly regional safety committee meetings.
• Assist in managing TOMRA’s EHS software system, KPA.
• Stand in as a backup to the EHS Manager/Systems due to planned PTO or unforeseen circumstances.
• Ensure compliance with TOMRA SAFE standards and guidelines.
• Ensure due diligence, to take reasonable steps to ensure TOMRA is complying with its health, safety and environment obligations under relevant legislation.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• High School diploma or GED required. Some college course work preferred.
• 1-2 years of safety experience
• OSHA 10hr and OSHA 30hr certifications preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.), CCTV, and ability to learn new software quickly.
• Strong oral and written communication skills; must be able to effectively communicate with both internal and external stakeholders on safety concerns and issues and create persuasive arguments using a variety of methods
• Capacity to foster an environment of teamwork which promotes the company’s safety culture, core values and leadership principles.
• Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely proactive and effective when working independently. Must be a problem solver.
