The Role

Robotics Software Engineering Development Program will begin in the Summer of 2025 in our Waltham, MA office.

Public Transportation Accessible from Boston/Alewife.

Who we are:

Boston Dynamics is a world leader in robotics, tackling some of the toughest challenges in mobility and manipulation. For years, our awe-inspiring viral videos on YouTube have shown the world what remarkably capable robots can do.  We ship real robotics products and solutions to industrial, logistics, and warehouse applications.

What will you do?

The Robotics Software Engineering Development (RSED) program provides you with an opportunity to impact Boston Dynamics' robots while growing as an engineer.  You'll develop a strong network inside the company, and by the end of the program, you'll have made contributions across all of our robotics products.  You'll gain a clear understanding of how to work in the company's software environment, get hands-on experience growing the infrastructure needed to build amazing robots, and deepen your expertise in many software tools/technologies we rely on.

You will rotate through product and R&D software assignments during this 18 month program, while reporting into our Central Software team.  You'll learn to work in a fast moving, modern software environment, collaborating with engineers to design, build, test, and commit changes to our systems.

Boston Dynamics robots and products are built on a common codebase, and this program provides you the chance to learn about the many types of work needed to ship the world's most impressive robot products.

The program prepares participants for roles of growing responsibility through a combination of rotational assignments, structured learning, formalized feedback, and mentoring.  At the program end, participants will be placed into roles across Boston Dynamics teams.

Rotation will include:

  • Software infrastructure across many areas.

  • Product robot software work targeting robots, cloud infrastructure, desktop and mobile applications, and more

  • Support for product robotics research activities

Ideal Candidates:

  • Recent Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related majors.

  • Related work or internships in software engineering and robotics.

  • Hands-on experience writing / debugging software one or more of C++, Go, Rust, Python, or Typescript.  Ideally candidates will have completed one or more classes covering these languages and software design.

  • Strong familiarity with the Linux operating system, including the command line and basic scripting. Knowledge of network programming is very applicable.

  • Experience with calculus, linear algebra, and physics calculations is a plus.

  • Passion for software and robots

We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas for this position.
