Who You Are
The Robotics Application Engineer – Automotive Solutions will provide strong and consistent robot application engineering support to FANUC’s automotive customers who deploy robots into their automotive manufacturing facilities. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and problem-solver, experienced with FANUC technology, automotive applications and skilled in navigating complex engineering challenges while actively supporting the broader objectives of the Automotive Solutions Engineering team.
How It’s Done
- Establish and foster strong application focused relationships across Automotive customers and FANUC internal teams for your targeted applications.
- Maintain awareness and technical understanding of customer applications, processes, challenges and issues.
- Collaborate closely with cross departmental teams to drive resolution of outstanding application issues.
- Collaborate with Automotive customers to understand their application challenges and identify / evaluate possible solution concepts.
- Collaborate with Segment, Innovation Lab and GSSV teams to prepare material that enables FAC Automotive Sales to promote features, benefits, advantages and business value of new and existing FANUC products, engineering services and application solutions.
- Understand the application strategy of Automotive customers related to your targeted applications, and technology roadmap to inform and influence future FANUC product and/or customization developments through collaboration with FAC Segment or GSSV team.
- Collaborate with your Automotive customers application leads ensuring capabilities and competitive advantages of FANUC application products are written into project requirements / specifications.
- Work with ASE Innovation Lab engineers to develop and validate new demo cells highlighting your applications.
- Support FAC Sales by preparing and presenting material or coordinating coverage from the appropriate segment engineer on the application of FANUC products for customer visits to FAC and Sales visits to customer sites.
- Escalate product application issues/requests with other FANUC departments to meet customer and project needs.
- Negotiate issue resolutions, establish and communicate business priorities, and collaborate with Segment to prepare clear / complete functional requirements for customer requested application developments.
What You Need
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, software) or equivalent related field experience
- 3+ years of experience with automotive automation systems and applications (body shop, general assembly, propulsion/powertrain, metal fabrication, etc.).
- Experience with PLC’s, including Allen Bradley, Siemens, and Beckhoff including debugging and troubleshooting.
- Experience with Automotive processes such as spot welding, stud welding, dispensing, riveting etc.
- Experience with simulation tools including FANUC ROBOGUIDE, Process Simulate, Emulate3D and others.
- Experience with vision applications including FANUC iRVision
What Would Be Even Better
- Segment / Project Management / Product Management / Application Engineering experience related to robot application, system or product implementation.
- Customer and application experience to effectively identify and promote new application concepts across strategic customer initiatives.
- International customer experience
- Familiarity with multiple automotive robotic applications used in Body Shop, General Assembly, and Powertrain.
- Actual equipment integration, installation, and production experience a plus.
