The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing care for patients (a.k.a. residents/clients) in a safe and efficient manner. Works cooperatively with all levels of staff employed within this facility in a professional manner at all times.

Professionalism

·         Demonstrates and reinforces professional behavior for self and colleagues.

·         Works well with supervisors, and those in authority.

·         Observes departmental dress code, maintaining professional appearance at all times.

·         Handles telephone inquiries with courtesy and accuracy. Receives information and distributes messages as necessary.

·         Attempts to recognize and evaluate personal strength and weaknesses.

·         Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed, although not directly assigned;

·         Reports free time to supervisor assists others as requested, or in order to enhance job knowledge and skills.

 

Communication:

  • Maintains open communication with the Director of Nursing regarding departmental concerns and opportunities.
  • Ensures effective communication with charge nurses, department supervisors and medical staff regarding changes, progress or concerns related to the nursing department.
  • Communicates plans, interventions, and expected outcomes to patients and family with respect and courtesy

 

Timeliness

·         Always ready to begin duties on time at the start of each shift.

·         Returns promptly from breaks and meals.

·         Always provides timely and proper notification for absences and tardiness, following facility policy for call time, PTO and PTO Sick Time.

Requirements

SD Board of Nursing – RN Licensures

Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC and BLSO. (Or obtain as soon as offered through MRH & C).

     NRP and STABLE (for OB trained staff)

Must possess knowledge and conform to SDCL 36-9-1 through 36-9-97 (Accessible via SD Board of Nursing Website).


 General Health:              

·         Should have full mobility for bending and stooping as well as the ability to participate in vigorous activity.

·         Position does require bending, stooping, very heavy lifting (with a partner), and maneuvering patients onto and off of a stretcher.

·         Must possess near vision acuity for accurate reading of equipment and recording on patient charts.



Skills Required

  • Active South Dakota Board of Nursing RN licensure
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current PALS certification
  • Current TNCC certification
  • Current BLSO certification
  • NRP certification for OB-trained staff
  • STABLE certification for OB-trained staff
  • Knowledge of and compliance with SDCL 36-9-1 through 36-9-97
  • Ability to bend, stoop, perform vigorous activity, lift very heavy loads with a partner, and maneuver patients
  • Near vision acuity for reading equipment and recording patient charts
