EDCare is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Omaha team on an as-needed basis. This role provides coverage for vacations, sick leave, and periods of increased patient census, making it an excellent opportunity for nurses seeking supplemental hours while working with a collaborative interdisciplinary team.

As a PRN Nurse, you'll play an important role in supporting patients through their recovery by providing direct nursing care, monitoring medical stability, administering medications and treatments, performing clinical assessments, coordinating with providers, and helping ensure a safe, therapeutic environment. You'll work alongside physicians, therapists, dietitians, and behavioral health professionals to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

Summary of Major Functions: 

Provide nursing care to EDCare patients in conjunction with supervising physician.  Complete daily nursing duties associated with eating disordered patients.

           


Duties and Responsibilities:   

  1. Daily nursing duties, including specimen collection, point of care lab testing, phlebotomy, over the counter medication administration, following through with orders, performing EKGs, observing and recording weights, vitals, bathroom observation, among other necessary patient care.
  2. Order standing labs per protocol, record and notify provider of findings of relevant diagnostic and laboratory tests; follows up with necessary labs; shares results of labs with provider, escalating priority results with appropriate staff.
  3. Address and triage patients’ medical concerns and inquiries; listen and communicate by providing clinical information in a clear and timely manner; requests information and provide resources as needed.
  4. Collaborate on care delivery by including milieu staff, physicians, interdisciplinary team and management in both service and patient care improvements; treat all members with respect; demonstrate the highest levels of ethical and professional conduct.
  5. Provides knowledgeable and thorough nursing coverage. Works assigned shifts.
  6. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of appropriate medications. Regularly reconciles prescribed medications for assigned patients and notify providers of any concerns.
  7. Adheres to Infection Control standards for EDCare.  Educates and adheres to regulatory bodies, including but not limited to The Joint Commission, CDC & OSHA regarding monitoring infections in staff and patients.
  8. Provides patient education regarding side-effects and efficacy of certain medications in coordination with prescribing provider. Provides patient education about medical complications of eating disorders.
  9. Timely completion and accuracy of clinical documentation nursing shift assessment, weights and vital signs, treatment plan, progress notes, etc. Adheres to, complies, and demonstrates support for the mission and values of EDCare.
  10. Assists milieu staff with milieu management, among any other assistance needed.
  11. Adheres to, complies, and demonstrates support for the mission and values of EDCare.
  12. Ensure confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining a secure and trusting environment.
  13. Provide and accept feedback in a respectful manner from all staff. Demonstrates teamwork, open communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary team.

Minimum Qualifications:

1.    Registered Nurse (LPN or RN) in the state of Nebraska within 60 days of hire required.

2.    Obtain CPR Certification within 90 days of hire required

4.    Experience treating patients with eating disorders preferred

5.    Experience in a mental or behavioral health setting preferred.

6.    Good oral and written communication skills preferred.

Computer Skills:
1.    Minimum of beginner skills in Microsoft Office suite.
2.    Must be able to efficiently learn and effectively work within an electronic medical records system.
3.    Must be able to efficiently learn and effectively work within various software products.

Physical Demands and Environment:
Sitting, standing, walking frequently during a 12 hour shift, talking frequently, hearing frequently, seeing constantly, reaching with arms and hands frequently, crouching occasionally and using fingers intricately. This position requires lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds rarely.

Environmental conditions of this job include but are NOT limited to:
99% inside, 99% normal temperature and 99% normal noise as expected in a medical office environment.
