What you will do
- Demonstrates ability to assess patient clinical ands psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice as it relates to the specialty or patient population served.
- Partners with patients and families to develop, implement and evaluate plan of care, treatments and procedures that contribute to the physiological and psychosocial outcomes of the patient. Assesses and incorporates evidence-based standards of practice. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team in the coordination care. Facilitates safe patient transitions to the next care setting as part of plan of care.
- Demonstrates a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput to assure patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care. Focuses on quality outcomes of patient care when addressing customer’s needs to include current evidence based practice and quality measures.
- Ability to delegate and prioritize tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and ensure patient care needs are met. Able to recognize and respond to emergency situations. Evaluates own needs for support and uses identified systems to meet need.
- Successfully coordinates with physicians, employees and leadership to meet specialty-specific needs; to include, employee education, equipment/supply needs, and physician preferences.
- Demonstrates understanding of diverse patient care populations and ability to modify education method to ensure patient/family comprehension. Educates by assuming responsibility to individualize and coordinate patient education, and discharge specific education that includes family/caregiver. Evaluates for patient comprehension and documents.
- Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
- Works to implement cost-saving measures for assigned specialty through limited supply use accurate documentation and auditing of specialty charts, coordination with vendors and achieving physician support for product standardization.
- Works to train all staff assigned to the specialty to a level of proficiency with documented competencies. Engages physicians in the training process. Works directly with the specialty tech and lead first assistant to ensure competencies are valid and complete for surgical techs. Works with OR Educator to ensure completion of specialty specific competencies for all OR staff.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelors Degree, Nursing (Preferred) or
- Associates Degree, Nursing (Preferred) or
- Program Graduate, Nursing Diploma Program (Required) and
- High School Diploma or GED, Only required if Nursing Diploma Graduate (Required)
Experience
- 2 years OR RN Experience (Preferred)
- 1 year Demonstrated proficiency in Surgical Specialty (Required)
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) or licensed in a compact state (Required) and
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required) and
- ACLS Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)
- Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) (Preferred)
