Job Description Summary:

Provides safe, accurate and efficient patient care, including but not limited to: patient assessment, review of labs and vital signs, medication safety, dose verification, and drug administration. Follows all Job Breakdown Instructions (JBIs) associated with role. Provides triage care when necessary. Communicates patient condition effectively to multidisciplinary team members.

Key Performance Areas:

Safely and accurately administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, supportive care, and non-oncologic agents to patients as ordered by providers.  Will use Oncology Nurse’s Society (ONS) standards and guidelines.  Accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste, per OSHA and NIOSH guidelines. Responsible for new and ongoing patient education, continual patient assessment, and support. Documentation: Thorough, accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of treatment rendered to patients.  Ensure appropriate charges are captured by following guidelines for appropriate administration of all medications and activities. Will follow proper patient identification per JBI for all patient encounters. Teaching:  Educate patients and caregivers about medications, side effects and planned treatment course.  Interact with patient and family in a caring, professional manner. Telephone triage:  Includes prioritizing incoming calls and messages from patients, family members, hospitals, nursing facilities, pharmacies, and physician offices from emergent to non-urgent. Must respond accordingly in an appropriate time frame. Supplies:  Includes assisting with inventory and re-stocking medical supplies, recommend purchase of new items as needed.  Place stock in storage areas in a timely manner.  Complete annual required safety and nursing trainings. Attend all mandatory staff meetings as necessary. Always maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information. Assist in training new employees related to job duties according to JBIs. Will be expected to work at any Company location to help meet the Company’s business needs on an as-needed basis, within reasonable expectations. Will also be expected to work overtime when given sufficient notice. Performs other duties and projects as assigned. Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient’s rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law. Adheres to Company and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Plan.

Job Qualifications and Requirements:

Education:

  • Nursing Degree

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Unencumbered RN License in state of employment or multi-state license
  • Current CPR and BLS certifications
  • Valid Driver’s License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed

Previous Experience (including minimum years of experience):

  • Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital setting
  • Ability to assess patient needs and condition is essential. Must have strong critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.  Fluency in the English language with excellent oral and written communication skills is required.

  • Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-site environment with demonstrated ability to juggle competing priorities and demands from a variety of stakeholders and sites.

    • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook required.
