The RF Communications Engineer for Voyager Lunar Systems is responsible for establishing requirements for the RF communications subsystem, maturing current design, testing and analyzing components and system performance, create link budgets, assessing risk and reliability, and working with other subsystems to maintain system compatibility.  The RF team is also responsible for all appropriate regulatory compliance.

The position reports to the Electronic Systems Manager and is part of Voyager Lunar Systems based in Pittsburgh, PA. This role is hybrid based in Pittsburgh, PA. 

In this role, the essential functions are:

  • Develop RF Comms systems through design, development, simulation, testing, verification and operations
  • Apply full life-cycle systems development, including requirements development and traceability
  • Perform link budget analysis for spacecraft operating in earth orbit, cislunar, and lunar regions
  • Support Design reviews such as Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), etc.
  • Participate in regular discussion with suppliers and vendors of RF and communication hardware.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Electrical Engineering with RF Focus with 3 years of experience in comms systems development OR Master’s degree in Aerospace or Electrical Engineering with RF Focus with 1 year of experience in comms systems development
  • Experience operating RF Lab equipment such as Spectrum Analyzer, Vector Network Analyzer and Oscilloscopes.
  • Knowledge of basic RF and communications concepts such as transmission line theory, S parameters, Fourier transforms, link budgets, digital and analog modulation, power spectral density and analyzing systems with noise.
  • Knowledge of basic antenna theory.
  • Knowledge of ancillary system design including thermal and mass properties.
  • Knowledge of basic printed circuit board design.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with python or similar scripting language (MATLAB/Octave)
  • Experience with RF Simulation tools such as HFSS
  • Knowledge of Range Safety and Ground Safety compliance
  • Knowledge of space environmental tests (TVAC, EMI/EMC)

The good faith base salary range for this role is $110,000–$160,000 at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive. This range may be adjusted in the future.

Skills Required
