Job Mission

Terraformation is seeking a Restoration Technician to support our Internal Forestry Operations team in Hawaiʻi. This role is essential to Terraformation’s mission, focusing on reforestation projects in Hawaiʻi to restore native forests and showcase effective restoration practices. As a Restoration Technician, you’ll work hands-on to implement and maintain reforestation sites, contributing to Terraformation’s goal of inspiring global reforestation efforts. This role requires attention to detail and commitment to working outdoors on native forest restoration.


Job Type: Full-Time / 40hrs a week


Location: North-West Hawai’i Island (Kona/Waimea/Kohala)


Salary: $20-24 per hour, plus equity (depending on location and experience)

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members to execute restoration projects in the field
  • Plant, maintain, and monitor native plants, including tasks like fertilizing, mulching, and hand watering
  • Manage weeds using hand tools, herbicides, and equipment like weed whackers and chainsaws
  • Assist with nursery tasks such as up-potting, spraying, and watering plants
  • Set up and maintain irrigation systems as needed
  • Repair and inspect fence lines to secure restoration sites
  • Maintain and organize equipment, vehicles, and storage areas
  • Record GPS locations for out plantings and report field conditions
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines; attend all required training.
  • Participate in Terraformation community events as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of field experience in forestry or restoration work
  • Proficient in operating power tools and field equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various weather conditions
  • Valid driver’s license is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of native Hawaiian plants and conservation practices.
  • Familiarity with Hawaiian culture and its role in ecosystem restoration.
  • Passionate about climate change solutions and forest restoration.
