Job Mission:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Restoration Technician to join our agroforestry team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and care of our tropical fruit and nut orchards in the Hilo area. This position works alongside our other crew members in the field and will be starting and ending the day in Wainaku. Occasional travel to other locations on Hawaii Island (i.e. Kona/west side or Waimea) will be required for team meetings and to support projects outside of the regular sites.
Full-Time (40hs/week), Temporary through Sept. 15th - Dec. 31st with the possibility of extension.
Salary: $21 an hour. Plus benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401k, PTO etc.)
Location: Hawaii Island, mostly Wainaku to Honomu. Start and end day at the base yard in Wainaku.
Must have a valid Hawaii Driver’s License and clean driving record. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Responsibilities
- Pruning: Perform regular pruning to maintain tree health, enhance fruit production, and manage the overall structure of trees in the orchard.
- Mowing: Operate mowing equipment to manage ground cover, ensuring a tidy and accessible orchard environment.
- Brush Clearing: Clear brush and undergrowth to maintain orchard boundaries and reduce fire hazards.
- Harvesting: Assist with the harvesting of tropical fruits and nuts, ensuring the produce is collected efficiently and safely.
- Weed-Whacking: Utilize weed-whackers to control weeds around trees and in other designated areas.
- Nut Hauling and Loading: Transport harvested nuts from the orchard to storage areas, including loading and unloading as needed.
- Attend team meetings
Desired Qualifications
- Experience Operating Equipment: Must have experience operating tractors and small engine equipment, including weed-whackers and chainsaws.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure proper care of orchard trees and equipment.
- Safety Consciousness: Awareness and adherence to safety protocols, especially when operating machinery and handling heavy loads.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with other team members while also being self-motivated to complete tasks independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous farming experience, preferably in an orchard setting.
- Basic knowledge of tropical fruit and nut tree care.
- Familiarity with sustainable farming practices.
