ATCS is growing! We are looking for a Responsible Charge Engineer to join our Construction Services team in our Newport News location to oversee major transportation projects during the construction phase. The ideal candidate will hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license in VA and possess a strong commitment to ensuring compliance, safety, and quality in all aspects of project execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the direct and personal supervision of engineering activities during construction.
  • Ensure projects are constructed in strict accordance with contract documents and specifications.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation to demonstrate compliance with:
    • Project requirements.
    • Applicable federal and state regulations.
    • Safety and environmental standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including VDOT staff, local government agencies, consultants and the public.
  • Prepare project correspondence and progress reports for client approval and support project meetings.
  • Provide timely and articulate communication between necessary parties that furthers the project and helps meet client’s goals.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field is required.
  • Professional Engineer’s license is required, preferably in VA. Will consider other states with the commitment of obtaining a Virginia PE within 6 months of starting employment
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in transportation construction projects, preferably in VA.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO, VDOT and regional design standards, practices and policies
  • Excellent oral, written, communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications, such as Microsoft Office suite and construction management software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Our employees are the most critical part of ATCS. For this position, we offer a competitive salary range of $110,000 to $145,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The role is also eligible for an annual bonus, with a target 2% of the employee's annualized salary.
