The MODEL-AD Center (Model Organism Development and Evaluation for Late-Onset Alzheimer's Disease) at the Bar Harbor, Maine campus of Jackson Laboratory is interested in filling a full-time position for a motivated laboratory research technologist. Laboratory research technologists working for MODEL-AD will be the first to work with pioneering, next-generation Alzheimer's disease mouse models and therefore must be open to learning new techniques and technologies in a team setting.

Key Responsibilities

The research technologist will be responsible for working directly with research mice designed to investigate genetic and environmental risk factors for Alzheimer's disease. From animal husbandry, cohort creation, maintaining healthy aging, and sample collection the research technologist will be responsible for balancing both animal health and experimental endpoints for the duration of MODEL-AD projects.

Minimum qualifications

Preferred candidates must have some familiarity/experience working with laboratory animals, preferably mice, or with associated animal handling protocols. Additional responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

- Laboratory mouse handling

- Laboratory animal behavioral testing

- Appropriate and ethical animal end-point procedures

- Biological sample collection/handling/organization

- Competency in Microsoft Office (eg. Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)

- Familiarity with molecular/biochemistry wet bench techniques (eg. PCR, Western blot, immunohistochemistry)

Pay range: $19-$26 per hour, depending upon experience.
