As a Research Scientist in Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity, you will shape the future security architecture and design of ABB's software-based products, with a focus on protecting industrial systems in an increasingly connected world. We are looking for a team member with a proven research track record and a drive to translate cutting-edge academic work into real-world industrial environment. You will join a highly motivated, international team of scientists at ABB Research, tackling complex challenges facing digital capabilities within critical infrastructure today. The work model for the role is: Hybrid
You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Contribute to and/or lead research projects that turn state-of-the-art research results into effective software solutions for ABB

  • Create prototypes of innovative concepts with real business impact

  • Evaluate new technologies and assess their impact on ABB products and roadmaps

  • Disseminate your results in scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports

    Build a network in the company and actively disseminate your knowledge and expertise

Qualifications for the role:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field

  • Hands-on experience in software engineering and system design

  • Deep theoretical and practical knowledge in one or more of the following areas: OT security, computer security, distributed systems, embedded systems, secure communications, or applied cryptography

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, or Rust

  • Proven publication track record at top-tier scientific venues

  • Proven ability to drive ideas from concept to working prototype

  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset across multidisciplinary teams
