We are looking for an additional colleague to join our company as a Research Scientist – Hygiene and Microbiology within Global Brand, Innovation and Sustainability (GBIS) Global Unit.
We are hiring a Research Scientist to our Microbiology and Hygiene team at the R&D Research department based in Mölndal. We work at the forefront of discovering new solutions for the hygienic materials and products of the future. You will be involved in both research and development projects across all types of products we offer at Essity. Your contribution will include expertise in hygiene risks and improvements, as well as the best methods for measuring microbiology.
We place a strong focus on sustainable products, which also brings new hygiene challenges related to recycling, circularity, and the use of new materials.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
Act as a strategic expert and advisor in a key competence area, supporting projects and functions across all business groups and levels.
Lead advanced research initiatives, design strategies to address scientific and technological challenges, and mentor researchers to ensure high-quality output.
Establish and maintain long-term research collaborations and actively engage in external networks.
Collaborate cross-functionally with global teams to translate research into practical applications and business value.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and ethical standards in all research activities.
Stay current with scientific advancements and integrate new knowledge into projects and strategic plans.
Capitalize on scientific knowledge through internal training, expert input, and support for claims, patents, and standards development.
Represent Essity externally through publications, conferences, and industry involvement to strengthen its leadership position
Ph.D. in Microbiology, Applied Microbiology, or a related field, with deep expertise in microbial hygiene, sanitation, and microbiological methods.
Proven research experience in applied microbiology, including microbial identification techniques (e.g., PCR, sequencing, microscopy) and hygiene protocol development.
Strong understanding of regulatory standards and current trends in hygiene and microbiology.
Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate in multidisciplinary teams, with experience mentoring junior researchers.
Proficient in data analysis, statistical methods, and bioinformatics tools for microbial analysis.
Excellent communication skills, with a track record of publishing research and presenting at scientific conferences.
Skilled in writing and reviewing scientific papers and technical reports.
Strong analytical mindset with enthusiasm for both independent and team-based research.
