Are you motivated by creating intelligent hearing solutions that adapt to people, environments and everyday listening needs?
We are looking for a Research Scientist to help advance dynamic, adaptive and scalable neural networks for hearing aids.
In the role of Research Scientist in the Global Research team, you will explore how neural networks can adapt their processing to changing acoustic conditions, using only the resources needed while supporting clear speech understanding and a natural listening experience.
The Team you will be part of:
You will join a global research team of 28 colleagues across Ballerup, Eindhoven, Glenview and Shakopee.
We work at the intersection of hearing science, acoustics, psychoacoustics, signal processing, human-computer interaction and machine learning to develop technologies for future hearing aids that address real-life communication challenges for people with hearing loss.
Our culture is open, collaborative and driven by scientific curiosity. Working closely with audiologists, algorithm developers, platform specialists and product teams across our organization, we combine rigorous research with user-centred innovation. We challenge established approaches constructively and work together to create quality sound experiences and meaningful end-user benefits.
Your contribution is appreciated, and you will:
- Research and develop dynamic, adaptive and scalable neural-network approaches for hearing-aid signal processing
- Design algorithms for real-time speech enhancement, noise reduction, sound-scene analysis and speech-focused processing in complex listening environments
- Develop methods that adapt model capacity, processing depth, channel usage and computational routing to the acoustic situation and listening needs
- Balance speech intelligibility, sound quality, latency, memory footprint, power consumption and computational complexity for hearing-aid deployment
- Investigate robust decision mechanisms that respond to changes in noise, voice activity, speech quality and acoustic environments
- Evaluate algorithms through objective measures, listening-oriented evaluation and computational-efficiency analysis
- Collaborate with research and development colleagues to mature promising concepts into demonstrators and future hearing-aid technologies
To perform well in the role, we imagine that you:
- Hold a PhD or bring an equivalent research background in audio signal processing, machine learning, acoustics, electrical engineering, hearing science or a related field
- Bring expertise in deep learning for speech and audio processing, supported by a solid foundation in digital signal processing
- Have experience with speech enhancement, noise reduction, source separation, acoustic-scene analysis, hearing-aid processing or related audio applications
- Are interested in efficient neural-network inference, scalable architectures, conditional computation, pruning, routing or related techniques
- Enjoy designing rigorous experiments, communicating technical findings clearly and collaborating across research, audiology and engineering disciplines; experience with embedded audio processing, perceptual evaluation, hearing loss, scientific publishing or intellectual-property development is beneficial
We pride ourselves on encouraging flexible work whenever possible. We trust our people to fulfill their responsibilities, to know when in-person collaboration is better than hybrid, and to be present when it's needed most.
We encourage you to apply
Even if you don’t match all the above-mentioned skills, we welcome your application if you think you have transferable skills. We highly value a mindset and motivation that align with our core values, to not only ensure growth for you, but for your team and the wider organization as well.
We are focused on an inclusive recruitment process
All applicants will receive equal consideration for employment. As such, we encourage you to submit your CV without a photo to ensure an equal and fair application process.
Should you have any special requirements for the interview, please let the Hiring Manager know upon accepting the invitation to the interview.
How to apply?
Use the ‘APPLY’ link no later than September 29. Applications are assessed continuously, so don’t wait to send yours.
Feel free to only submit your up-to-date CV, including a few sentences outlining your motivation for applying.
