At Moffitt Cancer Center, we're seeking an experienced Laboratory Coordinator to oversee laboratory management, technical operations, research administration, and collaborative scientific projects. This role is ideal for a highly organized scientific professional who enjoys balancing hands-on research with leadership, mentorship, compliance oversight, and operational excellence.

Position Summary

The Laboratory Coordinator provides leadership and direction for laboratory operations while conducting advanced independent research. This role manages research resources, mentor's laboratory personnel, coordinates collaborations, oversees compliance activities, and supports the development and execution of innovative scientific studies. Working closely with Principal Investigators and research teams, the Laboratory Coordinator ensures efficient laboratory operations while advancing scientific discovery through both technical expertise and operational leadership.

What You'll Do

🔬 Laboratory Leadership & Operations

• Lead daily laboratory operations and maintain an efficient molecular biology and cell culture research environment.
• Supervise and mentor laboratory staff, research technicians, students, postdoctoral fellows, and other research personnel.
• Coordinate laboratory resources, equipment maintenance, inventory management, and procurement activities.
• Maintain specialized laboratory equipment, including microbial culture systems and advanced research instrumentation.
• Train laboratory personnel on research methodologies, laboratory procedures, and high-tech scientific equipment.
• Develop, implement, and optimize laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs).

👥 Team Development & Scientific Mentorship

• Provide technical guidance and scientific training to students, fellows, technicians, and research staff.
• Foster a collaborative research environment that supports learning, professional development, and scientific excellence.
• Support multidisciplinary teams across multiple research projects and collaborations.
• Mentor laboratory personnel in experimental design, data interpretation, and research best practices.

🧬 Advanced Research & Technical Support

• Conduct and direct complex biological research experiments utilizing advanced scientific techniques.
• Isolate and prepare RNA and DNA samples for next-generation sequencing applications, including RNA-seq and 16S rRNA sequencing workflows.
• Perform quality control, sample preparation, PCR labeling, purification, and quantification procedures.
• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize Illumina sequencing platforms and related laboratory technologies.
• Design, construct, troubleshoot, and optimize expression and reporter vector systems while analyzing experimental outcomes.
• Analyze research findings and contribute to manuscripts, publications, abstracts, presentations, and scientific reports.

📋 Research Administration & Compliance

• Coordinate laboratory purchasing and ensure supplies, reagents, and equipment are available to support research activities.
• Monitor budgets, evaluate resource utilization, and provide recommendations regarding research expenditures.
• Ensure laboratory compliance with institutional, environmental health and safety, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain research documentation, protocol registrations, training records, and laboratory compliance systems.
• Participate in laboratory safety initiatives and support research compliance programs.
• Coordinate the shipment and transfer of research materials, biological samples, and specialized research resources in accordance with applicable regulations.

🤝 Scientific Collaboration & Project Coordination

• Coordinate collaborative research projects with internal investigators and external academic partners.
• Partner with animal care, research support services, and scientific collaborators to advance research objectives.
• Manage project timelines, deliverables, and communication between collaborating teams.
• Present research findings at scientific meetings, seminars, and professional conferences.
• Support grant-funded projects through operational coordination and scientific execution.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related scientific discipline and five (5) years conducting biological research experiments, including coordinating and directing work assignments.

OR

• Associate's degree plus seven (7) years of extensive applicable experience listed above.

OR

• High School diploma/GED plus nine (9) years of extensive applicable experience listed above.

Experience

• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible laboratory research experience, including conducting biological experiments and scientific analysis.
• Experience coordinating laboratory operations and directing work assignments.
• Experience supporting multidisciplinary research projects and scientific collaborations.
• Strong organizational, project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Salary Range

Salary ranges posted for this position represent the expected base pay range for the role. Actual compensation may vary based on location and a variety of job-related factors, including experience, skills, education, and internal equity among Team Members in similar positions.
