Research Engineer/Scientist, Ionospheric physics, remote sensing, and in-situ instrumentation
The Opportunity
The Center for Space and Atmospheric Research (CSAR) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, FL campus invites applications for a Research Engineer/Scientist position in the area of ionospheric physics, remote sensing, and in-situ instrumentation. The primary function of this position is to support the ongoing ionospheric research in Space and Atmospheric Instrumentation Laboratory (sail.erau.edu).
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of in-situ instruments slated to fly on multiple upcoming sounding rocket missions and small satellites, and/or to the development of ground-based remote sensing instrumentation.
- Analyze and interpret data collected from in-situ observations, ground based remote-sensing observations and collaborate with other scientists working on the various projects.
- Operate, maintain, and conduct experiments in a plasma chamber. Specifically, as it relates to spacecraft charging and flight instrument characterization.
- Help manage and task undergraduate students for engineering projects, as well as collaborate with other researchers in the Center for Space and Atmospheric Research.
- Present results at relevant conferences and aid in the writing of peer-reviewed literature.
This is a 1-year, 100%-time appointment with applicable University benefits and a possibility of renewal for additional years contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued availability of funds.

Required Education and Qualifications:
This position requires a Master of Science in Engineering, Physics, or a related field with 2+ years of experience or a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering, Physics, or a related field. The successful candidate should possess experience in the design and use of either in-situ instrumentation or ground based remote sensing instrumentation, as well as programming skills in C and Matlab/Python/Julia.
