Primary Responsibilities:
Research and document new ideas and write new product specifications.
Develop application notes, white papers, technical reports, and conference and journal papers on innovative applications or ideas.
Conduct competitive product analysis.
Maintain a working knowledge of SEL products or solutions and a perspective of industry practices/trends.
Protect SEL Intellectual Property by writing patent and copyright applications.
Required Qualifications:
B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related or equivalent experience
2+ years' working knowledge of at least one of the following:
- Electric power systems and practices and philosophies
- Utility automation and control systems
- Utility grade communication schemes
- Digital signal processing practices
- Statistical analysis and data analytic techniques
Excellent technical training skills
Experience with simulation software to analyze power system transients, load flow, and short circuit studies
Knowledge of power system analysis, power system protection and power system stability
Experience with analytical tool (Matlab, Simulink, etc)
Willing to travel 25%
Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills

Pay Range Data
We anticipate filling this position as a Research Engineer $97,000 — $144,000. Our compensation ranges are based on the responsibilities of the role. Starting pay is determined individually and considers factors such as relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and training. Candidates may be considered at different levels based on their background. As a result, pay may vary to align with the level of the role.
