Research & Development Research Associate, Biosciences

Where will you work: Onsite – Durham, NC (100 Capitola Drive, Suite 305, Durham, NC 27713)

Research Associate focused on developing and formulating bacteria and fungi live microbe technologies for agriculture.

As a member of the Mosaic Biosciences Research and Development team, this role will assist in Formulation and microbiology work and laboratory activities will support commercial product formulation, new product development, process development and research, scale-up and accelerated stability studies. Some knowledge or experience formulating, Microbiology laboratory skills, knowledge of chemistry, excellent communication, and strong organizational skills are required.

What you’ll do?

  • Execution of laboratory tasks and taking measures to support product development with formulation, microbiology. Prepare reagents (using high precision balances and sterile techniques).

  • Collection and preparation of samples for testing and shipping.

  • Growing and formulating microbiological cultures and conducting microbial and other formulation studies.

  • Support the broader Research and Development team in the laboratory, field, and/or at production locations, including cleaning, organizing, and conducting a variety of different experimental tasks.

  • Develop and document SOPs by researching the primary literature and reaching out to subject matter experts.

  • Document, write, share, and/or interpret experimental results in a group setting.

  • Interpretation of results and data generation follow the highest quality, integrity, and compliance standards.

What you’ll need:

  • A bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, pharmaceutics, chemistry or material science, chemical engineer is required.

  • Minimum of 1 year of industry experience.

  • Laboratory experience in formulation, Microbiology, and basic chemistry techniques.

  • Some knowledge or experience in formulation of biological products.

  • Physical requirements: ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.; ability to sit, stand, or kneel as needed; ability to work outdoors, in the lab, in production environments, in greenhouses, and around plants, microbes, and soil.

  • Critical thinking and willingness to share your point of view.

  • Ability to translate and report findings.

  • Formulation and Microbiology science is a hands-on career.

  • Organizational skills.

  • Proactive, transparent, and strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

  • Highly motivated, creative, and organized.

  • Ability to work independently on several projects. 

  • Ability to work across functions and lines in a matrix environment.

  • Strong analytical abilities for interpreting scientific results.

  • Patience is a key attribute of a formulation and microbiology field.

  • Computer proficiency including MS Office and web-based applications.

Bonus if you have the following:

  • Experience working with data analysis programs.

  • Experience in biotech and/or agriculture companies (biotechnology, fertilizers, crop protection, seeds, etc.).

  • PowerBI, Microsoft PowerApps, SmartSheet
