Your role and responsibilities
This role is a unique opportunity for someone with a desire to combine people management, strategic alignment of a Research & Development (R&D) department with operational aspects like work safety, R&D processes and stakeholder management.

We are looking for an outstanding Research Department Manager “Energy Technologies” to join the management team of our Research Center.
The work model for the role is: #LI-hybrid
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Leading and representing the department with ~50 members: people management (recruitment, development), support of project portfolio management and research strategy, continuous improvement of processes and lab infrastructure
- Supporting the Research Center Management Team as active member and the coordination of global R&D activities
- Guaranteeing professional, top quality definition and execution of R&D projects and contributing to extend the technical and process knowledge to the organization
- Stakeholder Management within the Research Center as well as across our Business Areas
Qualifications for the role
- Experience in leading an R&D group or an R&D department
- Communication and leadership skills
- PhD in physics, electrical or mechanical engineering, chemistry, material science or a similar R&D track record
- Knowledge of power products and energy related topics
- Experience with the development process for industrial products
- Track record in delivering market-oriented R&D results
- Interest in new fields of research and technology
- Fluency in English and basic knowledge of German

The ABB Research Center located in Baden-Dättwil, Switzerland, is where we investigate new technologies which support and drive the development of ABB’s next-generation products and solutions.
The department “Energy Technologies” is organized in five research teams, which collaborate strongly with the development teams in various ABB Divisions. The fields of research ranges from Material Science, thermal management and physical modelling as horizontal competences to applied fields of research centered around battery technology and current interruption.
