Our mission is to develop therapies that empower the immune system to combat neurodegeneration and our team is focused on developing treatments for some of the most challenging diseases facing our society. By harnessing advancements in genetics, immunology and neuroscience, we are pioneering the development of potential therapies to counteract the devastating progression of neurodegeneration. We are supported in this mission by experienced and accomplished scientists and clinicians, a novel portfolio of programs, leading healthcare investors, and pharma company partners, who share in our commitment to bettering the lives of patients and realizing a world where we make brain disorders history.
As a Research Associate II for the Antibody Discovery and Protein Engineering team, you will support preclinical development of novel early-stage antibody therapeutics by being a key driver of the molecular biology function to generate plasmid constructs for production of protein reagents and represent the Molecular Biology function at Protein Science team meetings. Use your technical and organizational skills to expand expertise by contributing to improving ADPE group's capabilities. You will help grow the company, guide its direction, and above all, bolster Alector’s culture of thinking independently and working collaboratively.
During the first year, you will:
- Generate plasmid constructs for protein expression using molecular cloning techniques. Your responsibility includes gene fragment design, hands-on cloning, sequencing analysis, plasmid prep and scale up.
- Organize molecular biology requests using Smartsheet system, coordinate weekly MolBio team meeting, ensure requests are completed in a timely manner
- Collaborate seamlessly with Protein Sciences team to deliver plasmid constructs and align the plasmid generation schedule to production timelines
- Represent the Molecular Biology function at Protein Sciences team meetings
- Learn and develop skills outside of your core area of competence when needed, such as tissue processing, PK assays and/or protein expression and purification
- Contribute to completion of critical activities by aligning plasmid generation schedules to protein production timelines that will enable key milestones for a program.
- Present experiments and results clearly at project team meetings and group meetings.
- Collaborate seamlessly within the ADPE team and the broader Research organization (Biology, IVP and Bioanalytical teams) in a low ego fashion.
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- A BS in Biochemistry or other relevant science + 2 years of relevant industry experience.
- Mastery of Molecular Biology workflows including fragment/plasmid design, cloning, plasmid scale-up and preparation, etc.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
- Ability to plan and coordinate molecular biology schedules to meet critical project timelines.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills to prioritize and support multiple projects
- Pride in being a self-motivated person, fast learner, standout colleague, and creative problem solver
- You have a point of view but are low ego
