Under supervision this position will work closely with Senior Researchers assisting in the design and implementation of research studies. The Psychology Applied Research Center (PARC) in the Department of Psychological Sciences at LMU is seeking a research assistant. This position will work closely with senior researchers implementing the California Reducing Disparities Project evaluation and assist with other lab projects.

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities

Research Assistant I will assist the center in specific research project(s) through:

  • Conducting descriptive and inferential statistical analyses;

  • Entering and quality-reviewing data (e.g., identifying errors or problems);

  • Providing data management support to Research Assistant II;

  • Assisting with designing, formatting, developing, editing, and revising reports and PowerPoint presentations;

  • Providing mentorship, oversight, and support to the university students to coordinate research-related tasks and on completing lab procedures and protocols (e.g., accessing data storage systems, using lab software, etc.);

  • Conducting literature reviews;

  • Transcribing and assisting with coding observations from audio, video data to translate into quantitative metrics;

  • Working closely with center researchers on 1 or more center projects

  • Performing other related duties as assigned or requested.

Requisite Qualifications    

  • Typically a Bachelors’ degree in psychology or social sciences or related field or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant research experience.

  • Interest in and/or some research experience with CBPR and/or applied research relevant to center projects (e.g., health or mental health equity; environmental, systems and policy change; substance abuse prevention; etc.).

  • Ability to develop cultural intelligence (i.e., knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds).

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong work ethic and evidence of ability to conduct both independent and collaborative research with senior researchers, post-doctoral fellows, research assistants, and/or university students in at least one project.

  • Ability to support advanced quantitative data analyses using SPSS, STATA or R and/or qualitative data analyses using Dedoose, NViVo, Atlas.Ti or other qualitative software.

  • Some experience with assisting in the development of user-friendly, engaging presentations and research tools using Powerpoint, CANVA, Mentimeter, Qualtrics, etc.

  • Some experience developing Excel databases.

  • -Can support database management functions.

This is an in-person position that will require working at Loyola Marymount University five days a week.

Salary range

$22.26 - $26.68 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
