The Role

Job Description:

The Research Assistant will conduct experiments in the field of neuroscience, specifically brain modeling programs to measure brain injury.

The Marshall lab investigates the signaling deficits underlying the cognitive deficits observed in Angelman syndrome (AS), a severe autism spectrum disorder. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a key player in long-lasting increases in synaptic strength and learning. The long-goal is the development of drugs that enhance BDNF signaling to restore cognition in AS, and the treatment of other neurological disorders, including major depressive disorder, traumatic brain injury and Alzheimer's.

The Research Assistant will assist the PI in experiments involving general molecular biology procedures, cell culture, and basic laboratory management. The Research Assistant will also assist with testing a brain modeling program to measure brain injury following cerebral palsy. The primary purpose of this position is to help the lab make progress toward its research goals. The Research Assistant will work closely with other staff (postdocs, graduate students, undergraduate students) to perform experiments. This position will perform experiments according to established laboratory protocols, and will provide technical assistance, as instructed, toward the development of new procedures.

This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 6/31/2026 or (one year from the date of hire), which may be extended based upon available funding.
