About the Position
The initial term of employment is one year, with the possibility to extend the appointment, being dependent upon continued funding and successful performance. The successful candidate will support research efforts at the interface of chemistry and biology, with a particular focus on natural product biosynthesis. Applicants with demonstrated lab experience in chemistry, biochemistry and/or molecular biology, as well as a clear commitment to inclusive mentoring, are especially encouraged to apply. The successful applicant should expect to receive training as needed in molecular cloning, protein purification, synthetic chemistry, and advanced spectroscopic techniques, as necessary. Primary Responsibilities
- Plan and carry out biochemical research experiments
- Analyze data and troubleshoot unexpected findings
- Maintain a safe and productive laboratory training environment; assist in ordering reagents/chemicals, basic instrument maintenance, and general lab organization
- Train undergraduate students on foundational laboratory skills and mentor undergraduate students in independent research
- Help communicate and disseminate findings via publications and presentations
Line of Report: The Research Assistant reports to Lou Charkoudian, Professor of Chemistry.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or a closely related field

- Experience that demonstrates an ability to supervise and mentor student colleagues
- Demonstrated commitment to working in and advancing an inclusive environment

- Research experience in a chemistry, biology or related field
